I was able to get within 30 yards on this buck in his bed. I had passed on him earlier on the hunt thinking he only went in the mid-180's. I think I might need to get my head examined!!!! On the 2nd to last day of the season I decided to punch my tag on him, so we came back to his stomping ground to bloody our hands.

He is 25" wide and is a scoring monster. Deep forks and great G4's. I really like his eyeguards, they look like hammers, because of the way they split out flat on the top, pretty cool.

Oh ya, almost forgot. he scored 200 3/8".

Wow can't believe u passed him up with a bow in hand. He is a giant. great deep deep forks. love the little extras especially the split off his g2. very symmetrical. Awesome tine length. Congrats on a stud of a buck. Outstanding.

That is a great buck! Put it this way, if you always underscore your buck by 20 inches, you will never be disappointed when you get your hands on him. Glad it worked out for you the second time around. Congrats!

Awesome Deer! I was waiting to see how that turned out for you. I can't believe you passed on him, oh well atleast you found him again. I saw some pics of the others you passed and those bucks were awesome too.

Congrats, and I will always remember you can't shoot the 200's when you shoot the 180's.

It went something like that. I might be off by .5" on a length here or there. A few friends also gave it a score and came up with the same. It sure looks like a smaller buck than what the score was, but I am not complaining.

I remember watching one of Doyle Moss's CD's about a guy passing up a buck because it wasn't wide enough and another one of Doyle clients drilled him and the score was somewhere around/over 200. Looks can be deceiving, so studying the buck hard before passing up one might be a good idea. I got a little lucky he didn't bail.

Good luck everyone

You are a "fool" hnt. for initially passing on that buck! LOL,
But I have no room to talk, because I was also fortunate enough to take a 200" typical that I initially passed on and way under estimated on score.
Big typical bucks can be very deceiving, especially if they are not all that wide. It seems most of us muley hunters are way too obsessed with width, so it is easy to make a big mistake.
Anyway congratulations on taking a buck of a lifetime. I am glad we both came to our senses in time!

LAST EDITED ON Oct-29-12 AT 10:13PM (MST)[p]Regardless of score, he's a great buck, congratulations!
I agree, looks can be so deceiving and here's another example. I took this buck a few years back. After scoring yours, what would you think this scores? You'd be surprised. I'll post pictures that are similar in pose to your pictures.

(for reference, his g2's are 17+ and 19" long)
