One of my best friends just informed me he bought me a 72, 73 3rd season tag for a wedding gift. I know nothing of the area other than lots of private down low and some good looking high country. Anyone have any insight into where I should focus my efforts? I can hike with the best I them and have no quit in me. Obviously want a giant but know that hunting is hunting. I'm pretty new on this so let's see where this goes. Thanks in advance.

Hunt the bedding area, the deer will leave the fields to bed up, you will need to know where the private and public lands meet.

Thanks Gator. I'm working on getting some good maps to try it. Do you think it would be worth the effort in the high country? Or do you think most of the deer will be down low by then?

What's you friends name? I'm always looking for more friends!
My wife of 35 years would probably agree to a divorce and re-marriage if I could get a sweet tag from my new friend.

Back to reality; good luck on the hunt and I hope to kill a toad!

Haha. He's definitely a good friend. I'm blessed to have him. Wish I could speak with someone that had hunted the area before and give me an idea of what to expect.

Dont have a clue about the unit but FYI you get to hunt the private land the tag come from...
Good Luck, hope it turns out to be a buck of a lifetime for you!

Let me guess, you drive a 1 ton with oak trees for smoke stacks, 12" lift kit and 40" tires to pull a single place lawn mower trailer?

Don't know anything about 72, but 73 holds some good numbers and quality of deer. But as stated, lots of private and in the later seasons, they may hold many of the better deer.

First order of business is to find out about the land that the tag was issued for. By law, they have to let you hunt that property. Could be great or not so great, but you need to find out in a hurry. Intel I know only pertains to bow season, so don't know where to tell you to try in later season.
