The local weather forecast is predicting 4-12 inches of snow for the mountains in Norhtern utah the next few days...I am just curious how this is going to change the hunt for the second weekend? In general would you expect deer in northern Utah to be high-tailing it out of the high country because of this large storm? I am wondering if deer are that quick to respond to snow that they might be in a totally different area than last week or this same time last year because of the snow?
I drew the Wasatch West rifle deer tag this year and mostly hunt near Strawberry Ridge. I hunted this region last year and have scouted quite a bit and have seen some nice bucks. However, I have never been in the area with snow on the ground. I am wondering if the deer will make a major/minor elevation change because of this storm and how fast they will do it?

Always been curious about the whole snow hunting thing too. Never experienced it. Have heard it makes the hunt a lot easier and in some cases an out an out slaughter.

No doubt the snow will change the hunt. It does not mean they will all start to move down. The big bucks will hold out until their hormones make them follow the does down. They will move more and be more visable when it comes, you gotta love the snow! You will also have the benifit of tracks to see what the numbers are doing and which way they are going. Good luck!

I believe that significant snow will create a hunting paradise in some of the Northern units. For example a few years back we experienced a similar significant snow event and some absolute monsters were killed off of the Cache unit. The word on the street is an absolute giant was killed on the Cache unit today. I have seen cell phone pictures. I am sure you will see several large deer posted on this forum in the days to come. Good luck to all.
