So a good friend of mine's wife drew out for a San Juan rifle tag. She's been putting in for 13 years and finally drew it. We went down Friday and hunted hard till yesterday. We put a ton of miles on the wheelers and what felt like equally the same on foot. I gotta tell you, for one of the more premium units in Utah, it was pretty poor hunting. We saw a total of 15 elk and maybe 100 deer all week with the biggest buck being a decent 3 point. It seems like when the DNR opened it up for archery spike and cow hunts and the rifle spike elk hunt they've put a lot of pressure on the deer and elk herd. My friend and his wife are heading back tonight and staying till sunday. Does anyone have some advice that I can get back to them before they head back down?
