Here is my 2012 General Season buck. Not the biggest buck, but good enough for me.

I spotted this buck early this morning during a break in a snow storm. He was a thousand yards or so away, a few ridges over from where I was hunting. I watched him feed up one side of the ridge and drop over the backside. I wasn't seeing much else, so I figured to get a closer look at him. I worked my way over to where I had last seen him and the. Spent the next hour and a half following his tracks for a mile or so all over the mountain.

I finally caught up to him while he was working his way up a ridge in some thick brush. He stepped into a clearing for just a couple of seconds, enough time for me to decide I wasn't eating tag soup this year. I squeezed off a shot as he turned sideways, and immediately knew I had missed. He was roughly 250 yards away when i shot. He took off over the ridge and out of sight again.

I hiked over to where I had last seen him and decided to double check for blood, just in case. NOTHING. Not a drop. I gave it a minute or two and started after his track again. After a few hundred yards he tracks got all mixed up. It looked like he was going one way, immediately turned another, and then turned year another way. I was trying to figure which way he had gone when I noticed him about 10 yards away...DEAD.

Turns out I hadn't missed. I had shot a little lower and back than I would have liked, but he was slightly quartered away from me when I shot, so the round took out both lungs and exited out the other side, breaking his shoulder.

As luck woukd have it, he dided about 30 yards away from a dirt road I hadn't noticed earlier. Made for an easy time getting him off the mountain.

Like I said before, not the biggest buck, but it was a fun hunt that I was able to share with my father in law and brother in law. He weighed out at the butcher at 217 pds with the hide off. The thing I'm most glad about was that I decided to donate the meat from this buck to Farmer and Hunters for the Hungry. I'm glad that this buck will be able to help feed some families in need this winter.

Nice PISSCUTTER there TUFF BUFF!

Hello Mr. Wisz,This is the UDWR Calling....LMMFAO!
15" Bases?
30" 5ths?
GOOD GAWD A MIGHTY!

That's awesome that you took the time to follow up your shot to look for
blood. Too many people won't make the effort to do that. Way to stick
with it. Congrats on a nice buck !

Thanks for following up on your shot. I just got back from hunting the front with my bow. There was a rifle hunter in a canyon I was watching shooting like mad at deer. He shot from three different perches within an hour at a couple different deer. He never followed up on his shots. Just hiked back out. I'm assuming since he saw nothing drop, he was satisfied that he missed.
