AZ Unit 18B Junior Hunt

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I'm humbly seeking information for my son?s hunt in a few weeks. After spending most of his free time in the first 15 years of his life offshore becoming a very accomplished angler, we got him a tag and want to get him as geeked-up about deer hunting as he is about fishing.

It's his first deer hunt, we've never been to the unit, and aside from a few days to scout before the hunt, he will only have 3 days to hunt before returning to school. I would genuinely appreciate any advice and direction with regards to the hunt and a location to set up my trailer. We have decent optics, 4WD and may have a quad or two.

I would like to hold out for a grande, but the reality is that we would consider the hunt a huge success if we were just able to see some animals and possibly get a shot at a starter buck.

You'll have more success getting responses by posting this in the Arizona Forum. The Windmill Road on the north part of the unit, coming off of highway 93 to the east, is pretty popular. There is a G&F sign-in there when you get off the highway. There is patchwork of public private land for a long ways on the main road though before you get way back in there.
