Pauns Buck

I had never stepped foot on the unit in my life and didn't really know what I was getting myself into. After countless hours pouring over topo maps studying the unit, speaking with people willing to help out a new guy to the Pauns, and some time on the ground scouting all combined with a little luck, I'm happy how things turned out.

I have a 50/50 chance of drawing a rifle tag next year as I am in a group of 6 hunters vying for 3 tags. Any chance you might share the approximate location where you bagged your dandy buck (too much to ask for exact location)?

That buck's body is so big that it will make his massive antlers appear smaller than they really are. What a body. I think you shot an elk by accident! Cant get over how big his body is.

You are exactly right. His body was HUGE! Biggest I have ever seen by far.

He is 34" wide.

That buck has to weigh close to 300 lbs. What a hulking bruiser.

Thanks everyone. Yes, the body of that deer is gigantic. I figured he'd push 30 inches when he was on the hoof and I made the decision to shoot. I can only assume it was the big body that made me underestimate him by a good chunk as I had a good look at him from all angles.

It really was the hunt of a lifetime for a guy like me to get a buck like this. It was awesome to be able to share it with my two brothers and will be talking about this one for a long, long time!

I was thinking "hulking bruiser" when I saw the photos. Then I read that Eldorado already used the term.

Congrats on an awesome buck. The pauns is a special place. I just have one thing to ask of you. Please let us all know the age of your buck when you get the data back. He seems like an old brusier.
