My buddy just came from a 3rd season hunt in colorado, there was a DWR road block in which they had to show tags and get questioned.

Here is where it gets wierd, he was asked to show his blue card. My buddy said he doesn't carry his blue card. The DWR said he wont write a ticket but has to send a copy to the DWR or they will issue a ticket.

So sense when do you need to carry your blue card with you?

Is there a rule that you need to have your blue card with you?

Blue card? do you mean his license? if so then yes you are supposed to have it on you when hunting.

Let me guess, you drive a 1 ton with oak trees for smoke stacks, 12" lift kit and 40" tires to pull a single place lawn mower trailer? See Zeke for prime example....

wtf is a blue card????

I don't know about Colorado as the only state I have ever hunted in is Utah, but a blue card in UT is just to show that you have completed hunter's safety. You can't buy a tag without it (unless you are part of an older generation) so I can see no reason why you would have to carry it while hunting.

They want to see your "hunter ed" card to register you in their computer system. If you hunt colorado, your required to either carry it with you all the time, or take it once to a DWR office and show them. That will validate you in thier system and he won't have to show them again.

What state is your buddy from? By blue card, do you mean his hunter education card? In Colorado, if you are not "verified" in their system, you do have to carry your hunter education card with you and it is something a person can get a ticket for if they don't have it. If your hunter ed card number is on the license with a "V" after, then it is verified and you do not have to carry a hunter education card with you in the field. If the "V" is not present or in place of your hunter ed card number it says "HE CARD REQUIRED", then you have to carry your card with you and present it when your license is checked. The way to become verified in Colorado Parks and Wildlife's system is to take your hunter ed card into an office and tell them you want it verified.

In Colorado you must carry proof of completing a hunter safety course unless you take the card in to a CPW office and have it verified in the system. Any license you have issued after being "verified" will say so and you won't be asked to show it again.

Its been a few years since I have hunted Colorado but I do remember reading in the regs. that a hunter is required to have his hunter safety card with them while hunting. As a non resident I stopped at a area office one time to pick up my tag and the gal at the front desk looked at my hunter safety card and updated my information so that it showed on some other tag that I completed hunter safety.

99% sure Wyoming is the same way that you need to actually have your hunter safety card, and I remember way back in the day Nevada actually had non residents send in a copy of their hunter safety in order to apply for the draws.

We were in Wyoming hunting Jack Rabbits and got stopped by the DWR. He asked to see proof of hunter's education, which we didn't have as we were hunting a non-game species.

He informed us that if hunting in Wyoming, regardless of the species, we had to carry proof of hunter's education on us.

He also told us that if we would have had our Utah small game permit, or the like, that we would be fine as you need to have proof of hunter's ed to purchase said license.

He let us off and even let us finish hunting but I always carry my license with me now when hunting anything, anywhere.

The Blue Card requirement is a new one to me.

I guess I'm just another "Utard"...but even Utah is smart enough to not even issue a license without verifying hunter education. So if I'm reading everyone's posts correctly, Co and Wy will issue hunting licenses...then if checked by Fish and Game ask for hunter education?

Looks like Utah may not be the "Tard" here...Just Sayin

Its not that hard, put your hunter safety card in with your hunting license, put it in a sleeve, keep it in your wallet. Mine stays with me year round, I'm always licensed to kill and legal.

If they really used the term "blue card" then whoever asked needs to do some homework.

My HS card is black/white, as is the reissued card (originated back in the 80s for me). Yes you need to have proof of HS with you while hunting.

Maybe he did do his homework, and knew that because the hunter was from UT, his card would be blue.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-13-12 AT 04:43PM (MST)[p]Wow! Im pretty sure I don't even have my blue card anymore. I guess if I go to Colorado I will have to get a new one. Is a Utah license with the number considered proof?

elkoholic you will need to show them your actual id card. Just call the UT dow and they should be able to send you a new one.
