Did I miss this somewhere? I saw this photo on Facebook on the Utah Big Game Records page. It says new state record typical. Anyone know the story of it killed by Nathan Jacobson? I heard about another monster killed off the Paunsaugunt this year but by a different guy that is suppose to be a huge net typical close to the state record. Anyway, just wondering if I missed something about this buck. Thanks.

213 1/8 gross
212 4/8 net

I think even more impressive than the rack itself is the fact that that thing only has 5/8" of deductions. Very cool looking and impressive buck. Those forks are something else

those forks are unreal

"sick of those ads in the elk forum, really sick of them"

Great buck! I would love to know more about it as well.
It makes me shutter to see how little skull plate they have left on that buck, given how easy it would be to break. I guess once it is scored it doesn't really matter but I hope he doesn't drop it in the mean time!
Congratulations to the hunter!

That's as symetrical as they can get and I agree that they sure cut that skullcap awful close to a rack like that.

....isn't that the truth...I shudder everytime I see that. What is the point in sawing them so small??

no, they do not.

jeezus...that is new. I should know that.

SHED ANTLERS/SPLIT SKULLS**
Shed antlers and trophies whose skull plates have been sawn in half are not eligible for entry in the Club's Awards Programs and/or records books, regardless of how well they have been "restored." Similarly, trophies with antlers that have been "pegged" for removal and easy transportation cannot be scored for entry in B&C. This is because the inside spread (greatest spread on moose), which is an integral part of the final score of antlered trophies, cannot be accurately determined in either case. If a Measurer suspects that a set of antlers he or she is measuring is comprised of a set of shed antlers or split within the mount, he or she should contact the Club's headquarters for instructions on x-raying that trophy. A Measurer must be present at the time x-rays are taken to take immediate possession of them and forward them to B&C headquarters. All X-rays are taken and mailed to B&C headquarters at the expense of the trophy owner. This policy applies to trophy specimens of all deer, caribou, moose, and elk, as well as pronghorn.

Trophies with skull plates that have been shattered or split by shooting, dropping, etc., are eligible for entry so long as the pieces fit perfectly back together. Such trophies can only be scored by members of the Club's Records Committee or its designated representatives.

Wow!!!thats what dreams are made of right there. Can't wait for the story on that Beast. Congrats to the harvester. Outstanding.

Awesome buck! Looks like that rack that sold at the Dwr antler auction in may. I believe it was poached off.the Vernon.

The Pauns buck green scored 226 Gross and 220 Net. After the 60 days, he taped at 215 Net. However he is a velvet buck, so he is not a world record. But he is the largest Typical ever taken with archery equipment

You guys need to quit worrying about the skull plate. It could be dropped now and broken and it wouldn't matter. It has been officially measured. Nate bought the deer at the antler auction the DWR held. He did not kill it. It will beat the existing rifle state record. It is not the same deer that was killed on the Paunsaugunt. Maybe he will display it at the WHCE in February for everyone to see.
