LAST EDITED ON Dec-21-12 AT 01:37PM (MST)[p]This is some pretty cool footage of fighting mule deer that has been going around. It is worth watching.

So who else would have let em walk and found a different day or a different deer? I am not saying they did anything wrong by shooting but every once in a while, that sort of thing is more exciting and full filling than pulling the trigger...

I am not 100% cetian I would have walked, but I have let animals walk in other situations when I have seen something really cool...

Very Cool Video!

Not certain but if shooting, i believe i would have shot the other buck.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-21-12 AT 02:59PM (MST)[p]That is probaly a once in a lifetime oportunity for that young hunter in Oregon. That tag is very hard to draw and he will likely never have a chance to hunt mule deer in the rut in Oregon with a rifle again. To let bucks of that caliber in Oregon walk, would not be a wise choice, even on a rut hunt. Thats a very nice, unique, Oregon buck. Cool video and congrats to the young hunter.

Thanks for the compliments. Interesting some of you wouldnt shoot. To each his own, but that never crossed our minds as they were both shooters in his book. The buck that walked was a nice typical buck. He shot the narrow one because he was super tall and unique with a cool 6" point coming off his base. Either way, a cool experience to be part of. Happy new year and good luck next year!

I certainly meant no disrespect to the buck the young man harvested. In most places that is a very nice, certainly better than average buck and a dream of every young hunter.

To explain my comment, from the footage i saw and if i were hunting a very hard to draw limited area and saw those bucks AND had season, time, and money left to hunt, i'd wonder what else might be available. That's just the way it's been for me, the way i look at it going on 35 years of Muley hunting. Big bucks like those, i've gotten, but i really would someday like to step it up another notch or two and a guy can't do that by shooting the first really nice buck a guy might see unless he gets super lucky.

I've seen mule deer "spar" and elk fight.....have never seen this for real.

Thanks for posting.

Within the shadows, go quietly.

Great piece of video and a great buck. Would have probably shot the other too, though the sticker out of the base is pretty boss.

No way i could let either of those bucks walk... I think taking one of them was the cherry on top of the most amazing film I've seen in a long time, probably ever... The things almost took them out..!!

Though the other buck was obviously wider, and heavier... The taller buck had that 9" dropper coming off his base, and was all around good looking... I think the kid made the right decision on a gorgeous and unique animal...

What an amazing video...!!

Wow - that is awesome. That narrower buck was getting WORKED! I am glad that Matt was happy with the buck. That is all that really matters. Hunting should be a highly personal adventure. The best trophy is the one you want to take, the one that completes your adventure. I can totally understand why he wanted that buck, that cool cheater explains it all. I would have taken the wider buck, but that is my preference. Great job Matt!

HOOK 'EM!
