HJB, not doubting but are you pretty sure it's the same buck? The G-4's look too short from the pictured deer above.

How Wide and what did he score?

Theres logic, and theres women. They don't go together.

Matt, by the fact that those sheds were picked up within a few hundred yards of where I took this picture, I would agree that has to be the same buck. He sure turned out to be a stud this year!

Thanks guys! Somehow i got it in my head that those sheds were this years, my mistake.

I still though, say that that buck is close to 190 and 30", a Dandy, and he might be bigger than that!

I'm sure this will start a big fight, but I can't see that buck being more than 26" wide. He MIGHT be 28", but that's being generous. He is not 30".

I think he is pushing that 30" mark too. Reasoning is that it doesn't look like it because his beams aren't the flat type that are generally needed to get 30" but the beams are really long on this buck. Also his G4's flare out considerably to give that extra couple inches.
He is a dandy of a buck!

Let me guess, you drive a 1 ton with oak trees for smoke stacks, 12" lift kit and 40" tires to pull a single place lawn mower trailer?

I agree. He looks like 26 to 27 to me.

I'm with sage here, i think he'll easy go 30"!!

Now you guys are talking! Tell you what, i killed a clean 28" 4X4 in Wy "H" back 4-5 years ago. It's a nice 170 class buck but i'd bet that it would comfortable fit down inside that top pictured buck's rack with room to spare!

closer to 30" then 26" IMO

I would guess around 28-29". Now we are talking about outside spread, right?

Mmmm, other way around maybe.

"Pics or it didn't happen!"

30" outside and with that extra brow tine he is at least 188" gross.May go a couple inches higher

I would guess that he's around the 27" mark. He looks like a young buck to me. "The big ones look big" and although he is a hansome buck, there is no way he's going to hit 30".

I know two bucks mounted on the wall at my mom's house that will say this buck isn't much over 26" wide.

So, these two mounted deer talk to you and judge deer scores for you? What, do you call them up on the phone? You might better check their Batteries after that last advice! lol

Seriously, you guys aren't just giving me the business, you really think that this could be a 26-28" deer? Must say that i'm astounded. I can't remember back far enough to the days where i was ever more sure of something and then came right out and said that i was right and you guys are wrong.

This is a mature buck in his prime and all his glory, IMO, that has a huge frame. I think that's what has many here fooled, This bucks rack is really tall as well as wide, It's the kind we all hope one day to get, really tall, nice n wide, and heavy! Wouldn't surprise me one bit if this buck wasn't 32" wide. My guess of 30" was being conservative and those saying 26" just has my head near tilt.

I'd really like to hear from those that know, watch, and have seen this buck in person as to how wide they honestly believe this buck could be? Yes, i have been wrong before and i can take it and/or admit it when so. I just don't believe this buck is getting the credit that he deserves. In this day and age, he's a monster!

Recently I was fortunate enough to be able to watch and film this buck with a couple of my close friends. I would bet on this buck being at least 29" wide scoring just shy of the 180 mark. Beautiful buck for sure! Thanks for sharing DakotaSage.

Beautiful deer! But, nowhere near 30. With the angle of the ears, I say there is 18" tip to tip, with +4" of antler on ether side, puts him about 26-27" outside. Score wise, his G3's are not huge at less than the length of the ear, ~6".

As impressive as he looks, I think he would have some ground shrinkage on ya, probably scoring 175-185. Having said all that, a great deer, and the only was I would hesitate shooting that buck is if I didn't have a tag!

I'm with pugs on this one. I believe he is at least a solid 28 inch buck. A few things could be making this Buck look deceiving I suppose

Sit tall in the saddle, hold your head up high, keep your eyes fixed to where the trail meets the sky...

Extremely nice looking buck!

I think he has short ears, at a max of 22" wide

I would guess the buck has a 27- 28 " outside spread.

Steve

I think he's a little over 30. Most of you are probably using the ear width, this can be deceiving i've measured ears from 21-28 inches wide. On a picture like this I use the length of the ears. Most ears are 6-8 inches in length. Much less margin of error, now if you take this deer 's ears ar 7 inches just using lined paper he has 22 lines, if you take the length of one ear it is 5 lines 7 divided by 5 equals 1.4 inches. 1.4x22=30.8

Bigmoosie, I like the way you think. The only reason I posted this picture, is because I think this buck is really deceiving. There are few bucks in the general area where I took this picture that I have no doubt break the 30? mark, but this one made me wonder. This picture is a more straight on shot of the buck. If between these two lines was 20?, this buck would still be 26-28?. I believe he is wider than that. I think he is right around 30?. Just my opinion. I know with the week backs, he is not a scoring monster, but he is impressive on the hoof.

By the way, I have a 27" buck on my wall that says this buck is bigger than 26". It makes my 27" buck look like a dink. Also, I think between the lines I put on the picture above is really more than 24?, which easily gets him to 30?.

This buck is definatley 30" through my swarovski binoculars, and when I saw him less than 50 yards away he looked even bigger.

I asked, "I'd really like to hear from those that know, watch, and have seen this buck in person as to how wide they honestly believe this buck could be?"

Thanks guys, moosie, Pugs, and the rest too! I guess it's just how nice that this bucks frame is. He might not look it but i don't believe there would be any "ground shrinkage" on this one and i believe he'll score a bit better than most here too.!

Thanks also for not beating me down too bad guys. At first, i thought you guys were just giving me a hard time because of my stated strong impressions of this buck. Maybe some were. We all know how hard it is to score and judge a buck thru Pics!

RE: 29 in wide

I have to say seeing more than 1 pic certainly helps judge a buck a little better. I say I overestimated him by saying he was close to 190. I'll now say he's closer to 180. Judging critters from a picture can be deceiving at times.

RE: 29 in wide

LAST EDITED ON Feb-06-13 AT 10:24PM (MST)[p]As someone said before...not a scoring monster but a solid low-180's buck. I have a 31" buck on my wall that I just asked and he definitely says this buck will stretch the tape to 30" outside.(and he didn't even use his marvin the martian falsetto voice when he said it.)

RE: 29 in wide

With a rut-swelled late november neck I am betting the low guessers might be singing a different tune.

What a stud.imo He's a 30 inch mid 180's monarch. His frame is awesome. Height-width-length. And by the way I love the doubled up eye guards on the one side. Awesome buck. Thx for the pics of a magnificent animal.
