10 NonRes Colorado Deer Points

Been saving up for a long time now and am considering my colorado options with 10 points. A 180+ muley is the goal and will hunt high or low; early or late. Prefer rifle but would do archery too if that's what it will take. Probably won't go again (can't wait that long anymore)so all info is confidential and any direction would be greatly appreciated!

Lots of options. If you love backpacking, an early rifle would be super awesome in my opinion. If you'd rather hunt close to the road, look at some of the 4th season hunts. By then the deer are low and also hunting pressure is much lighter.
2nd and 3rd season hunts can be great, but other hunters are a major wildcard. I'd cash my 10 points in on a hunt with fewer hunters.

Once you decide what type of hunt you want, then begin digging deeper.

If it were me sitting on 10+ points, I'd be looking for an early hunt in some rough, rugged high country where I can scout for a month and a half, then go hunt the best buck I find. But, some guys are 100 lbs. overweight, scared to be alone, get lost easy, etc., so their idea of a great hunt could be much different.

Thanks for the input Brian. In great shape but I like the idea of a rut hunt so I guess I'll look at the 4th season hunts. Do you know anything about the Air Force academy hunt? Once again, the goal is an above average buck. Thx.

Many of the 4th seasons in traditionally good units were dropped in Colorado this year. 10 points does not get you into late seasons in any of those units, but I am sure there is a sleeper unit in CO somewhere. Not sure anyone on here is going to tell you about it though. Good luck

I lived on the USAFA, there are some great bucks on there but I would NEVER use my points on it. You go around with a base represenative and to simply put it, they don't like to pass up bucks...It isn't like you get to wait weeks and weeks waiting for the biggest buck on base to walk into a hunting zone so you can take him.

It is a great place to go around taking pics though during the rut IF you have an ID card.

Let me guess, you drive a 1 ton with oak trees for smoke stacks, 12" lift kit and 40" tires to pull a single place lawn mower trailer?

If you have never been muley hunting in Colorado and will never go after you get drawn, you are missing so much. There are many units that have 180 bucks that can be hunted every couple of years if you are willing to do the work.

Not positive, but I think he is just saying he won't build that many points again because he doesn't want to wait that long.
