2013 Antelope Island Deer Tag(s)?

Last year it looks like there was 1 public draw tag - and it went to soemone with 5 bonus points.

Does anyone *know* how many Antelope Island deer tags there will be available in the public draw this year? (Doesn't really help to have max points when applying for this tag if there is only one, right?)

The last 2 years have been the same, 1 auction tag, one public tag. It's a safe bet that it will be that way in the future also.

You are correct. Points don't matter if there is only one tag as far as max point holders are concerned. You need at least one bonus tag. This tag could go to anyone.

I could be wrong, but having more points still increases your chances of drawing correct?

If you had 15 bonus points, then you would have 16 chances at your name being drawn??

Nope. They generate 16 random numbers if you will. Not sure if high number or low number is better. They give you the best one of the 16 so you only have one chance! If I had lots of bonus points I wouldn't put in for a unit that only had one tag cause you have only slightly better chance to draw than someone with 0 points.

I guess I'm having a hard time understanding. With 15 points, you are 16 times as likely to draw a tag than someone with 0 points. You have 16 "tries" to get that high random number.

Granted, your chances are still low no matter what.

c86, your logic is correct. You would just have better odds if there where multiple tags.

I found it funny that the expo broshure stated that there are several 240 to 270 inch bucks still on the island after this years hunts. There is MAYBE one 230 buck on the island. If he's still alive.

c86, yes you are correct. doesnt matter if its just one tag or 1000 the more points that you have the more chances you have to have the computer generate you the lucky number. its not rocket science, I dont know why others dont get that.

They draw 16 numbers (15 plus one for this year). Only your lowest number is used towards the tag. You have 16 chances to draw the lowest number, where a newbie has only one.

See the odds spreadsheets to see your odds increase with each point, but it is very minimal. Last year with 0 points you had a .01% chance at drawing, with 15 you had .2% chance.

Statistically much better odds, but still ridiculously low.

Well, my brother has decided that he is going to pull the trigger on the Henry's tag this year. Over the years he's just opted for the bonus point so he didn't have conflicts with his football coaching, his kids in fall sports, including 2 playing on college teams.

He's not coaching this year, but he still has 2 kids playing, 1 in the Pac-12. What's the deal these days with turning in your tag - must be done by a certain date, you don't lose points but you don't get any refund, right?

Thanks

@jimbowsai - I'll call you later, k
