Skunked again dangit. Congrats to all those that got cheap premium tags. Dude named CODY EKKER of Lehi won 2 tags one Book Cliffs any weapon deer and one Plataeu Thousand Lake any weapon early elk. I'm not sure if there has been an instance like this before, but I personally feel like its bull$hit to allow someone two tags. Yeah I understand they put in for numerous tags and they got hit twice but isnt the whole premise of the show and draw to attract people to come. I personally dont know that I'll keep pissing money away to drive up there from Southern Utah plus the fees etc only to have some dude win twice.

Heck if someone wins twice contact him/her and let them choose which one before the post. I know there have been instances of people winning numerous years, and while being somewhat suspect, I'm okay with it.

What do you all think?

It has happened more than once in the past.

I have to agree with your complaint, however.
One expo tag in a year seems to be plenty.
I have had two good tags in one year (in different states). It stretched me time wise, to the point that neither hunt turned out as good as it could have been.

Once again,
He has to chose one,
The other tag,,,, Someone will get a LUCKY phone call!!!

Really? You're whining because you didn't draw/win a tag? We all know the odds are LOOOOOOOONG but we play for the entertainment value and to see the show. Who knows? We might get lucky!

Just a couple things;

Firstly, the tags cost the same as any other tag that you'd draw fron the State. The winners need to pay the State so they're not "cheap premium tags". They cost the same.

Secondly, if you knew anything about the drawing process it would hardly be "suspect" to you regardless of whos name gets pulled!

Thirdly, the whole idea is to get everyone involved even if they are in a waiting period or perviously drew a OIL tag. People apply KNOWING that they might/could draw multiple tags. We just didn't get lucky like that kid.

Good for the kid who drew 2 tags! Bad for me and you since we drew ZERO but I'll be there next year.

Zeke

Just to clarify I have nothing personal against the guy for winning two tags.

Yes, the tags are pretty much considered cheap considering what they would cost on the open market. Zeke is only looking at what the state charges for that tag sometimes after someone spends years and years and years trying to draw it. Time is money spent not to mention opportunity costs of not applying for other tags or in other states when someone spends years trying to get a particular tag.

Zeke look at the costs of what Henry's deer tags go for all the way down to a Book Cliffs deer landowner tag. Cheapest I've heard of a Book Cliffs going for is $3500-4000 all the way up to $8000. The expo tags a very cheap all things considered.

So, you're saying there's a chance.

PS. Tristate, please be an adult and respect my wishes that you do not respond to any of my posts. I, in turn, will do you the courtesy of not responding to any of yours. I simply do not wish to converse with you.

So huntinguy, should all these tags get auctioned off so they're not so cheap? I don't know about you but if that happened, I'd have zero chance at the tags since I can't play with the money boys!

When I draw a good tag I never refer to it as a "cheap" tag just because I didn't buy it at the auction.

I really do hear what you're saying but just had to clarify a little since you insinuated they were cheaper than a normal tag.

You're right, 2 tags are probably too many but those are the rules of the game. I sure wish it was me who had the problem of having too many tags. I agree with LBH, a couple great tags really spreads a guy thin. I don't know if LBH remembers but a few short years ago my Bro had a sheep tag in ID and I had one in UT. We spent well over 30 days scouting/hunting sheep. I'm lucky to still be married!

Congrats to the lucky kid. I don't think he realizes yet what a difficult year it will be if he does justice to both hunts.

Zeke

Winner of two tags for two different species DOES NOT have to pick one. He gets both tags. And rightfully so!

I would feel differently if you could pay $5 per chance in a drawing and have as many chances for each tag as you were willing to shell out cash. But everyone gets the same 1 chance for each tag. Drawing two is just dumb lucky and for others to complain about that is ridiculous. This is like complaining about people that have won two lotteries in their life and threatening to stop playing the lotto. There is a very easy solution if you don't like your odds....don't play. I have no issue if a guy or gal gets lucky and draws multiple tags.

"should all these tags get auctioned off so they're not so cheap?"

He!! no! Love that they do these tags. Looks how many happy people there are after looking at that list. Many of those people in fact most probably never would have spent years going after that same tag that they won especially the chicks, but hey the expo gave them the chance to win. It's cool.

Just wanted to get everyones thoughts on the whole two tag thing. In the end, it doesn't matter most all of us will be hunting somewhere this fall!

Good responses guys

Funny how you started this thread less than 3 hours ago pizzing and moaning about a 2 tag winner and it's not right, yadayadayada and now after a few people put you in your place saying that it's all done fairly and within the rules you're of a totally different mindset telling everyone how good the responses were!

Yes he gets to keep both tags since they are for different species. If you draw two tags for the same species, they call and ask which one you want the send the other on to the next person...

Let me guess, you drive a 1 ton with oak trees for smoke stacks, 12" lift kit and 40" tires to pull a single place lawn mower trailer?

Can't say I see a problem with that. In Idaho, you can draw a deer and elk tag during the regular draw, so what is the difference?

Sounds like a pitty party to me.

Topgun you seem to thrive off controversy and I dont play into that crap but I will humor you this one time. I will admit my first post was a little sour grapes. However I admitted that I had no problem with the guy for getting two tags then finished off saying who cares anyways cuz most of us will be hunting somewhere or another this fall.

My question to you is should I have followed up on my initial post then kept on screaming about how life is so unfair etc etc well into the day? I chose to overcome the disbelief that someone could truly win two tags when thousands of others dont win any. Why is that so hard for you to get?

The "controversy", as you called it, was definitely sour grapes when you made your first post to begin with. Sorry that I was just telling the truth in my rebuttal and if you didn't truly care, then why did you start the thread in the first place? WHY is that so hard for YOU to get?

If you beat the incredibly long odds of drawing two tags... I say keep em..!! What if it was you..? If it was me, I'd want them both, so being the kinda guy I am, I want that guy to have them both... Sheesh.

"Therefore, wo be unto him that is at ease in Zion!" 2 Ne. 28: 24

So you are jealous because you didn't get a tag. Fact is if you drew those same two tags you would not have made this post!!!

Damn right the guy is jealous, just like I am and every one of you are. Some of you come in here and criticize the guy for being disappointed or jealous and act like he is the only one and that is total bs. He was a little bothered he didn't draw while seeing someone else draw two tags, give the guy a break. Having said that, it is legit for him to win two tags and I don't have a problem with it cuz we all know the rules.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-28-13 AT 07:26PM (MST)[p]What's really funny and quite ridiculous is that whenever some type of an argument or debate comes up like this there are always a few that come up with this "jealous" BS when they have nothing else worth a damn to come back with! In this case it was definitely warranted!

Edit: Last sentence above was added to correct an error brought up by another member saying I misspoke and was a hypocrit.

So, you criticize those that come up with "jealous" BS then tell the guy to take an aspirin after quoting someone who did exactly that??? Woops. You are either stupid or a hypocrit or both. It seems you are the one that doesn't have anything worth a damn to come back with!

Emotions are a funny thing. They affect everyone differently.

I was a tiny bit disappointed (not jealous) that I didn't get a tag but not because someone else got 1 or 2.

I've also been around the block a few times and realize that the drawing is never fair not is it ever unfair..... or BS. Any drawing is simply a tag transportation device. Nothing more, nothing less.

I've made so many "unsuc" application in the last 45 years that it really never surprises me! I guess I'm lucky because I can be happy for other people when they draw.

Better luck to me next time and good luck to the folks who won tags.

Zeke

I would like to see them put these tags back in the regular draw where they belong. Maybe would have turned some of those Unsuccessful into Successful, or at least improved the odds...

Well said zeke, am I jealous hell yeah I am I put in for both of those hunts and I would still like to congratulate the lucky winner. I would be on cloud nine if I were in his shoes, but the fact is your odds at best for big game in that draw are around 1 in 700 so I know I will probably never draw in my life, but I'll keep trying, you just never know!

I was going to say you're another with poor reading comprehension Bro, but I see I didn't quite finish my thought in the original post, which was that for once a post that was saying a person was jealous was true (probably was when I had to get up to let the dog out) before it went up. Therefore, with what was on that short post I would have to agree with you that it came off looking just like you stated! I just went back and put the last sentence up to clarify what I meant and said why in my edit message. Take care and thanks for pointing out my mistake since I sure don't want anyone thinking I'm one or the other or both of what you mentioned, LOL!

Does anyone know how they actually do the draw? Just curious what they use to come up with the winners.

@Bullcrazy and some others with their heads on straight, glad to see you got the intent of my ramblings/posts on this subject today. Point is anyone and everyone is jealous of those tags but not mad at the guy. Hell we all have a passion for hunting as far as I can tell.

@Topgun- dude your last post sounds like a back peddle which you called me out for doing earlier. Dude 3 hours ago your where pissing and moaning about me being jealous then you call people bring up the "jealous" bs out. Make up your mind dumba$$.

@Zeke- seem like a straight arrow but your last post even had some backpeddling from earlier in the day. Funny that you just cant admit jealousy of the tags but not the man.

Point is what was meant as an innocent thought provoking, as self admitted sour grapes, post turned into a pile of chit due to some people that cant let people be people and state their opinions.

huntinguy---Think whatever you'd like of me or Zeke, or anyone else if it makes you happy, but don't tell US what you think we think on this situation!!!

Dang right I'm jealous of those that drew! And I'm happy for the guy that hopefully will get to smoke two great animals this year.

I'm pretty sure he feels bad about drawing the 2 tags and will turn one back in!!! Heck that is what all of us would do right????

I see no problem with having the luck of the draw give an applicant 2 tags.

Itthas happened in the past and will again in the future.

He paid for the chance and ended up drawing two tags---no big deal to me.

Robb

I agree Robb.

I suspect huntinguy just got a little worked up when he/we didn't draw and he saw a guy with 2 tags. Like he said, he's not at all mad at the guy, he's just disappoointed he didn't draw.

My suspision is we all do things like that from time to time, me included. We post stuff and then re-think. Nothing wrong with that.

Good luck to us all in the real drawings!!!!

Zeke

I have to agree with the majority. He rolled the dice and came up the winner (twice). I bet most of us was looking at the successful list hoping to see their name on the list and in the back of their mine dreamig of seeing it twice!!!

Happy hunting to the kid and Iwish himall the luck!!!
