Had some success this last year and have been wanting to post ever since. I visit this site regularly but have never posted. I figure this is a good time to post anyway as it is a bit slow. I put in for a Colorado tag for the first time and was able to draw out. I have never hunted outside of my home state so I was excited. I used every possible resource to help me find a good spot to hunt as I would not be able to make it out for a scouting trip. My brother and I hunted hard for 3 days and on the 4th morning I got lucky and ran into 4 bucks in some oak brush. They were on to us and I had to take the shot quickly, there was an absolute monster of a buck pushing 200" typical with a kicker off his left G3 looking right at me at 30 yards but his vitals were completely covered. So I drew back on a another buck but could not see his antlers that well but his vitals were open. All I knew is that he had a decent rack so I let the air out of him. I then watched the monster, a 180 class buck and a spike bounce across a clearing into a thick aspen grove. Man I was sick about not getting a shot at the big guy, especially since I was not sure how big the buck I shot actually was. We did not wait long before we took up the trail because I knew I hit him good. But as soon as we headed in the oak a big old black bear was staring us down but then quickly headed in the same direction we were going so that made things extra interesting. I walked up on my buck only 30 yards from where I shot him and was very pleased..... no I was overwhelmed with what I saw. Always so much emotion when walking up on a buck like this or any buck for that matter.
