I have been holding on to this Archery Mule Deer Hunting Video waiting for everybody to get tired of hearing about who did and didn't draw tags. I spent a lot of time on it and would like some feed back, so I figure this is a good place to get some.

http://youtu.be/8XvuoinPsBc

I have tried to cut it down over and over to shorten it up a bit; its about 10 minutes shorter than the first cut. I don't understand how TV shows struggle to get enough footage for a good episode!

Great video and nice buck. Thanks for sharing.

That video was great. Way to stay with the buck and put him down. I like the shot that was taken and how you could see the deer at the same time.

Does the camera move at all while walking or does it lock in place?

"Hunting Limited Entry Deer in Utah 2013"

The Camera locks in place and is very secure. You can run with it as long as it is attached right, both to your head and from CamStrap to camera.

I strapped it to my buddies' helmet today as they jet skied some insane white water, jumping, submarining, crashing, etc and had no movement issues. I was very impressed with the system.

Glad you liked the video.

Really great video! Beautiful buck and those eye guards are really tall! Congratulations on an amazing hunt and a assume buck!

Great video. You did a first class job, frankly I am an archery muley nut, so this video is an A+ for me. Love all the different shot angles. And your buck is beautiful. What a trophy. Congrats on both the video and the buck.

one of the best video I have seen in awhile.
Both you and your brothers buck are very nice bucks, any mount pictures yet.
What state was the video filmed in.

I will never shoot a buck without the head camera again. It is even better when you get to watch your own. Glad you enjoyed it.

Nicely done. Congrats..

Government doesn't fix anything and has spent trillions proving it!!!
Let's face it...After Monday and Tuesday, even the calender says WTF!

That was an awesome job!
I am as we speak trying to figure out what method I want to use to self-film my hunt. I've been thinking between a system like this, a camera mount on the bow, like the bowfinger 2.0, or using a tripod next to me.
I love the mobility of this and that it sees what I see. Spot and stalk with it attached to the bow won't give a clear view of the approach until the last moment when the bow is raised.

Food for thought now. But thanks again for the awesome video and play by play. I'd love to have somebody videoing me at a distance to from a tripod.

I have tried many self film approaches, and so far the Solvid FIY method featured in this video is the best I have found. The main thing is you can take it off real quick to zoom in on something during the stalk as seen, then after the shot you can zoom in to get the death footage(as cruel as that sounds, its great to have and can be seen in the other mule deer video on my channel - Legalizer, and more to be released).

It is definitely nice to have someone filming from afar. In this case though, I could have set the camera up and let it record, which has worked well in the past. The buck stepped out of view for my brother, so it was a good thing I had the head camera on.

In addition to several other hunting films with someone filming at a distance, we have several of nice bucks and bulls that are 100% FIY and they turn out well also. I will be releasing them soon, so be sure to subscribe to my channel.

Watching Legalizer as we speak...
Yeah, I'll definitely subscribe.
Thanks!

Congrats on all the success!

I want to get a little handheld HD camcorder for the filming. I have a mini DV one right now, but it's a tad large for strapping it to my noggin. I know there are lots of types out there. I'm watching a few on eBay right now. But what type do you have? You like it, or would you recommend anything different on having an internal hard drive storage vs. an SD card for memory?

Thanks

Jaron,

I have tried many camcorder brands out there, and the one I like the best is Panasonic, both in function and all round quality. Check out the recommended cameras at the website for more info (the page is a work in progress. I would stay under 12 oz in weight.

Internal memory is nice if you forget to put your SD card back in the camera, but for 100% of our filming, we record to the SD card as they hold a ton of film (we have and 64& 128 gb cards)and are very easy to back up without software.

The Camhat does not have a camera mount. It is designed to fit over the top of the CamStrap, with the size adjustment on the side where the camera mount sticks through.

Hope to be seeing some footage this fall!

Chris

That video is one of the best I have seen. Congrats on an incredible buck! I know how hard it can be to try and hunt and film at the same time, you made it look easy.

As if getting close enough for an archery shot is not hard enough you guys that do it and capture great video of it all as well, simply amazing!

I thought it was an awesome video shot from an obvious sportsman.

My only constructive criticism is you refered to that buck as "frolicing"... My friend,.... Does Chuck Norris frolic? Does Clint Eastwood Frolic?... "Oh look over there, John Wayne is Frolicing in the sun..." It doesn't happen. Granted Vergo is your buck and you can call him the purple fairy ballet princess now if you want to but if you are going to share hunting videos with fellow hunters, bucks like that don't frolic. Thay stand more badass in the sun... Or they gallantly lounge in the sun.. Or they show there antlers in the sun like a man with a 14" piece would parade in a locker room....

Just kidding of course and it was an awesome video. Congrats on a buck I only will ever dream of getting.

Good luck,

Todd

Todd,

Funny thing is my wife said the same thing about the word frolic, but by that time, as in your case, it was too late to change things, so frolic it stayed, which was in fact what he was doing. I will consider this for the next video though. Chances are if you and my wife both said it, then more were thinking it.

Glad you liked it, and thanks for the feedback. Make sure you watch the other hunting videos. The Legalizer is not as big of a buck, but possibly more entertaining (imo). We have many more to release as well, so please subscribe.

Thanks Again,

Chris

finally found time to watch...
Not only a lifetime buck on the ground, but also great footage, editing, and story telling.

A+ for that one

Gator,

The mounts have been finished and are on the wall. Our Taxidermist did a great job. I will take some photos soon and post them up.

Filmed in ID. If you liked this video, be sure to watch the other archery deer hunt video on the channel, "Legalizer". Not as big, but just as entertaining, if not more. We have 8 or 10 videos on par with these to be released in the near future, so be sure to subscribe.

Thank You all for the encouragement.

Chris

Great video! Thanks for taking me along on that journey. As I watched it, I felt like I was living it with you. The way you filmed it and put it together invited emotion and energy into the whole experience. I relived alot of my past hunts when I watched this video. I have been in very similar situations, however, I have yet to connect on a buck of that size. Congratulations and keep filming!

Awesome video and a beautiful buck of a lifetime!!

Thanks for sharing.

All 3 bucks were awesome! One thing that impressed me was your shot through/over the barbed wire fence! Arrows don't follow our sight path and the arc makes it even more risky. Great job!

Please do not be impressed. I'm not exactly proud of the shot through the fence, but at only 23 yards, things looked and felt good, so I took the shot. Even still, I led a bit much. It was far from a risk free shot, but at the end of season 2 hunting him, luckily, things worked out.

That was a great hunt and good job with the video. It is amazing the crap videos that make it on TV. It would be nice if there were more like this.

Very cool video. Well done! I subscribed. Thanks for sharing. I am going to check out that unit for sure.
