Here's a picture of a picture I took back in the late 1990s of a giant forked horn mule deer taken by someone unknown in Yosemite National Park. There's no Photoshop trickery here as this was the late 1990s and it was taken by me of a picture hanging on a wall in a taxidermist shop in California. Note the date on the picture below it.

What do you think, 32-34" wide?

Must be at least a 10x10 by now, if he had some good wet Springs.......LOL!

This is the largest forked horn buck I've ever seen a photo of......an old time MM photo re-posted again for viewing pleasure.

Thanks Roy for the post and pict. The buck in your pict is a bomber with its height and huge forks, but my buck pict might have it beat in width. Either one would be awesome though to harvest.

I'd have to respectfully disagree. I've been fooled by by our much "smaller eared" CA Sierra bucks in the past.....they definitely make us think they are wider than they actually are. I'm thinking the last photo is just as wide if not wider. However, both are gorgeous bucks.

Since I know you and your credentials Roy, I wouldn't argue with you. In fact, I thank you for the education. What do you think the ear-to-ear spread is on each of those bucks? In fact what do you think the antler spread is on each of them?

My dad's buddy shot the largest buck of his life in X5b in Cali in the early 1990's. When he walked up to it, he couldn't believe that he shot a 32" fork. Still the largest buck of his life. Good pic. Thanks.

I am going to say the first CA buck has 18" ears. He is 10 inches outside his ears on each side. That would be 38", but lets take even more off of that for him being a CA muley. So my final estimate is at least 33 inches wide.

The second buck probably has a 22" spread tip to tip on it's ears. he looks to be about 4 inches outside his ears. That would put him at about 30 inches wide.

I think, all things considered the first buck from CA is much wider than the second buck pictured. Could be wrong though, those CA muleys are hard to judge.

I have 2 bucks on my wall that came within 20 miles of Yosemite....They are both mature bucks, Their ears only measure 14-16 inches. I would put that buck at 30-31 inches...neat buck.

Hey Pines n Tines I can beat that:

Buddy of mine from Az shot this beast during archery last year. I tried to get him to hold it for a pic, but he knew better :D

here is my big forkhorn. 2012 general Utah buck 26 1/2"

This one is not nearly as wide, but appears to be higher and deeper forked. One of my favorites!

Here's one of the bigger ones I've ever seen. Not my pic just one I found on the web a while back... Said to gross in the low 150's...

That huge forky that NVPete showed was a local favorite around here for a good long time. He lived to a easy life ripe old age in a protected area that was very visible to the public. Even more remarkable is that most of his genetic makeup is Blacktail. Yes, there is some muley blood in our herds around here but rarely do you ever seen a full blown muley buck this far west of Susanville, Ca.

Some of us buckhunters who would drive out just to look and oggle at this huge buck put him at 28-29" wide. This pic just does not do him justice!!

Nice thread!!

Buck,

I don't think I'd let a buddy find me in a pic with that 2 point either.

Here's a pic a a large 2 point shed i found with my boy. Not as big as the bucks pictured here, but it would have been a 26-27" 2 point with good mass.

I'd shoot it on any Utah general season unit.

Not a world record...just a big California blacktail cross. He was a 2X3 the year before.

Because his horns are small enough to put on a keychain.

keychain buck. is that smaller than a pisscuter??? elkassassin will want to know,,,,

Many years ago I used to work up by Yosemite. Once the snow flew and drove the bucks out of the park we would see a lot of forkies like the one in the first pic. Twinkies and cookies from park visitors really puts on the growth.
