Hey guys. I drew a mid season rifle tag for unit 10 this year, and am trying to get some starting points. I have talked to several people that say that the high country would be a good bet this time of the year (late October), especially in units 101 and 102. I have also talked to others that claim we should hunt the low country, saying that the majority of deer will be moved out of the high country by this time.
We are going to head over and do some scouting soon, and I would like your opinions on where we should focus our time. High or Low?

Thank you for your time, any help is much appreciated.

Area 10 middle is a fun hunt, I had the tag last year, and can tell you this, be ready for anything. Last year it was warm and sunny the first week, and a foot of snow the next. the last few days I hunted the bucks were getting frisky with the does. I hunted high, low, and everything in between.

If there is not a whole lot of snow, get as high as you can. If the weather has been mild or on the warm side, don't expect much early rut activity.

Avoid the easy access areas such as Harrison pass, Lamoille canyon as they will be filled with hunters. Find smaller canyons near these areas and be prepared to hike your butt off. Hunt as high as you possibly can, find mountains around the 10,000ft marker and you will find deer there. It is wicked country, but beautiful and fun to hunt. I have the September Muzzy hunt there. If you want to, shoot me a PM and I will keep you posted on what I find.

Thanks for the replies and PM's guys. I appreciate your help, and any info that you have been willing to share. I am excited to hunt this area, and will give it 110%.

Thank you again.
