Here's the ?
My wife bought me a blind. Loved her for it. But how to use it now? I have quite a hike up to my hunting spot. Steep country. The blind is 19 lbs. So I'm not thrilled about hauling it up or back. I also don't want someone to steal it or screw with it which is a possibility. I wanted to hike it up there this weekend if I am going to use it and brush it in so the deer can get used to it.
My thought is to use it strictly during the afternoon and evening portion along their routes from bedding to feeding.

What would you recommend? Good enough for concealment? Scent control? Worth the hassle?

Thanks Doods!!

Its a tuff situation. If you are think about the extended unit, I would say HELL no. It will be stolen, Damaged or vandalized in no time. I have had my tree stand stolen up there. The other bad thing is the wind. You can stake it down, but will be gone in no time also with the wind. Been there, done that. Best bet is to hike it up and ditch it somewhere and then set it up where you want it when you go. But have an area ready for it and build a ground blind so the deer are used to the pile of brush before hand. Good luck.

That's good advice, and probably what I'll end up doing. But I like the part of building something up ahead of time. Good call.

ive used blinds like this alot including my girlfriend killing a buck on the AZ strip out of it. bottom line is they work great if you set it up right....

in my expierence with deer elk and antelope it doesnt matter if you set it up a year before or the same morning that you plan on hunting out of it.

remove anything on the ground that could make noise. then set it up on that spot and stake it down.then use a shovel etc and put dirt around the bottom edges about 4 inches high.

brush it in good, put it under a tree with branches hanging down on it and around it.make it look natural and dont put it in the animals way. make sure you can still get in and out quietly.

most important, make sure the sun wont shine in or through your blind, that will give you away.

scent has never been an issue inside the blind but i spray the blind as well as myself down with scent away. it never hurts to use an ambush brand cover scent either

Thats a hard call for up there and unless the area is baited with something besides salt the deer seem to be transient or quit altogether the week or so before the season opens. Their nutritional needs change at that time.

The pressure from hunters can also foil it for you and they can come from anywhere any time and blow the deer out of the canyon leaving you to have a nice hot day in a tent.

I also think there's a chance someone will either be in it or destroy it up there if your not around. You never know though. I have found plenty of stands, blinds, cameras, ect and ive never touched any of them. LOL some of the cameras probably have a few photos of something funny on them though.

Now if you are going to use one up there you will need to know if the deer you are hunting and you see them the night before are in the same spot in the morning. If they are it wont work setting it up the morning of the hunt because you could blow them out of the county setting it up. You in their feeding area.

If it were me id set it up the evening before when the deer aren't in the area and spend the night in it.

If your hunting a bedding area you need to set it up in the night when there not there and be ready in the morning.

good luck!
