Got drawn for X3B. Trying to do some scouting for areas. Heard Blue Lakes is people behind every bush. Any suggestions of good areas to check out?

Get over to the east side and hike up into the basins overlooking Surprise Valley south of Cedarville or near Fort Bidwell. There are goo bucks in the lowlands north of Bidwell, but you will need to determine where they travel to and from water. Get away from the roads.

Great thanks for some advice, so fort bidwell you talking like coyote valley, Annie lake area?

For Cedarville you talking about hiking into the south Warner wilderness down by Eagleville?

Do you just hike it or jump on the jeep trails then hike over a few ridges?

Last time we hit Harris Flat but think we were working to high of an elevation and then blue lake was shot out and still people everywhere.

That is a tough zone anymore, cats have driven the herds down into the valley. Most of the deer hang out in the alfalfa fields. Was up there last week for the fair saw quite a few nice bucks. Best bet is to go and start talking to the ranchers and see if one of them will let you hunt. JMO

I sent you a PM, check it and let me know if you have any questions. I draw this tag about every 3-4 years. Took a 173" in '04

Good luck

Good advice bullskin. We used to hunt that very same area when I lived in CA in late 90's!

PM me. My buddy has the hunting lease rights to several areas in the valley. As noted, a lot of the bucks are down in the valley.
A bowhunting friend of mine has hunted the edges of the private west of Eagleville where the bucks come down the draws to feed in the alphalfa and had good luck too.

You can't kill one sitting on the couch!

There are a few trailheads worth hiking, but Emerson creek near Eagleville is the most accessible. I would gain altitude, but try to remain along the escarpment itself. It is mostly rough and rocky, but there are pockets with water and browse. Look especially for mountain mahogany thickets. You should expect to hike several miles, and it will be important to get a look at the landscape before opening day. You will not want to have to orient yourself during the hunt as your action will be early. North of Bidwell, I would hunt the juniper/sage along the forest service boundary. This area is mostly vehicle accessible.
