So, I'm a long time follower of these threads but first time poster. After 18 years of putting in, I finally drew a third season deer tag for unit 21. I'm a bit nervous that this was not the year to draw as I have not heard good reports the last couple of years. I grew up hunting unit 21 but moved away about 15 years ago and we have only been back to scout the area a couple of times. I don't expect anyone to share secrets but if anyone has any pointers or words of encouragement I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

I stumbled into a buck of a lifetime two years ago on that very hunt. It was the most frustrating/incredible deer hunt I have ever been on.

If you hunted there before, you know it is hard country to hunt and your timing with the rut is key. Pray for early snow to get early movement because your season dates are a few days earlier than mine. The longer you hold out the more likely you will find a toad. Plan to be mobile. We looked over hundreds of bucks and I even passed on a few 180 bucks (My son had to hold my bullets). But in the end, I brought home a 200" typical.

My all or nothing attitude could have easily paid me with tag soup, but I suggest you just go have a blast regardless of the outcome.
I also had 18 pts. (two years ago) That is a big investment of time and money, and it creates pressure to kill a monster. That was the frustrating part.
Monster Muleys are rare anywhere, and if one happens by, then it is an added bonus.

Best of luck and PM me if you want more info.
