MT Youth Hunt-Daughter's Buck

LAST EDITED ON Oct-21-13 AT 08:49PM (MST)[p]My daughter and I headed to eastern Montana last week for the 2-day youth hunt. We spent an hour stalking this buck and then another hour in the rain as we waited for the deer to get out of their beds. This buck came out and she killed it with a single shot from her 7mm-08 at 300 yards. I was amazed by her calm considering the circumstances. Super proud of her and one of my best hunts ever!

I thought I would also post the first meal from the deer. I prepared a chateaubriand-style roast from the backstrap cut. Topped it with a small lobster and a bearnaise sauce along with roasted garden potatoes and asparagus. Served medium-rare, it was one of the best surf and turf I have ever had.

What an awesome experience!I remember when my oldest son took his first buck with his bow.I was fortunate enough to be sitting right next to him and will never forget that.Congrats on a nice buck young lady.
