LE DEER

Hey All,

I just noticed my CC was hit for a Vernon archery tag! I have done a little bit of rabbit hunting that way but not much else. I have already been out that way once over to Erickson pass looking around and tomorrow Im headed over to look around Little Valley and around the Reservoir.
My question is, Where can I find some decent deer out there yet stay away from the other hunters? I have heard so many different things on this unit. I have heard, "If you find the water, You find the deer". And I have heard there is water everywhere. I have Heard on the Archery hunt the deer are High, Muzzy they are mid-mountain, Rifle they are Low. Then I have heard they are at all elevations during all hunts. Ive been told to look around the reservoir, Harker, and near Erickson Pass, Then I was told this is where the majority of the hunters will be.
What Im getting at is, I Have been told so many different things by so many different people, and would like some clarity from those who know and have hunted the unit. I plan on putting in my due diligence, and working my tail off. I don't need exact coordinates on where to go, just a little direction and I can figure it out from there.
Thanks In Advance!!!

Good luck is all I can say man! That's one hard hunt! I know a lot of guys in the last couple years that are awesome bow hunters and hunt the whole hunt out there can come back with nothing or a small 3 or 4 point. Just get out there and scout high and low and you will hopefully come home with a good one

Question?

When you Invented your Handle?

Why didn't you add 'WT' to it?:D

sounds like you have already been given all the coordinates by others and just need to do your do diligence and dig one out worth shooting.

Like swbuuckmaster said, you have been given plenty of info. and it's all true. If you want to see less hunters, then hunt low or maybe further out west on the simpsons but you will see less deer.

I would say if your getting alot of contradtictive statements from others, then take it with a grain of salt. You have the time between now and the hunt to figure out all the questions you have. In that time, I would be spending as many hours and days on that unit looking around and you'll be able to answer your own questions. Put in the leg work and get it figured out.

You can't spend years applying for a specific tag and wait until you draw to all of the sudden have questions that you need answered. I'm not trying to piss you off but you gotta do your homework long time before you actually draw.

When the time actually comes that you draw, you've already got the unit figured out and have plans A,B,C figured out. You already know where you want to focus.
Get out in them hills and learn their patterns.
Good luck on your hunt and I hope you have success.

"The movement for the conservation of wildlife,

are essentially democratic in spirit, purpose and

"We do not intend that our natural resources shall
be exploited by the few against the interests of the
majority. Our aim is to preserve our natural
resources for the public as a whole, for the
average man and the average woman who make
up the body of the American people."

"It is in our power...to preserve game..and to give

skill of the hunter, whether he is or is not a man of

My wife also drew the same tag this year. I grew up in that area and know it pretty good. You have all the right places your just going to have to put in some hard work to find the big boys. It seems like I hunt this unit almost every year with family or friends who draw a tag and it is really a hard hunt especially with the bow but it can be done and we have had some great success in the past few years.

That unit is so close, you should be out there every chance you get after about July 15. The best part about that unit is that you can scout it with much less time than other units that are hours and hours away.

I think if you spend each weekend out there beginning on the 24th of July, you'll turn up a few good deer you'll want to pursue and you'll be better prepared than most that head out there without a clue.

All that info is true go for a four Wheeler ride. The unit isn't what it used to be though DNR is to stupid to implement a management hunt which it truly needs bad. But you'll see a decent number of deer day in and day out. I drew in 09 archery had a blast.

Billy b, thanks for the advice. I actually drew this with 3 points. So I wasn't quite able to make plans a b and c like most people who put in for 10 + but I like your advice in the first paragraph. I will take it with a grain of salt and do my home work

i would 50% agree on a management hunt for those big 2 points but nothing else. some of the biggest deer ive seen on the hoof and harvested were those giant 3x4's
