Colorado Deer Unit #43

I was just curious of some statistics for the muzzy hunt? In 2012 there was 43 bucks taken on the muzzy hunt in unit 43. In 2013 there was only 16 bucks taken on unit 43 during the muzzy hunt. My question is why the big drop off on success? Was it because people are more selective or just shear numbers of deer have declined in the unit? Was weather a factor? How accurate are the states stats? (I hunted unit 22 in 2010 and no one surveyed me from the division during that year?) Looks like 2013 was a better all around season for deer except unit 43 for the muzzy hunt? Just curious any local knowledge or other opinions would be great. Thanks.

If there was serious snow early in 2013 that would knock the success down because you are not going to be hunting 12k when its snowing heavy.

+1 on rains.

I hunted elk not far from there last fall and it rained and it rained and it rained! Another guy and I both had 1 misfire due to rain. Didn't keep me from hunting, but I would have thought twice about hunting at timberline because there was plenty of lightening. And that was hunting at 7-9000 ft. At timberline, I suspect there was snow.

Very good. Thanks for the information. I kind of figured that it was weather related. Just curious as well. Does anyone remember how many days it rained fairly hard during a 2 week window of hunting? During the muzzy hunt? Was it hard rain 2 or 5 days or obviously off and on for a certain amount of days? Just curious. Thanks.

Probably easier to tally up the minutes it did NOT rain last fall for the entire month. It was like a rain forest here in colorado. I would not be worried about that type of rain again for many years.

Let me guess, you drive a 1 ton with oak trees for smoke stacks, 12" lift kit and 40" tires to pull a single place lawn mower trailer?
