One thing that likely is common with pretty much all areas is once bucks shed their velvet things change dramatically. A lot of bucks tend to go into seclusion in trees, thick brush, etc until the rut. In high alpine areas in Colo they may not move far but often move into adjacent stands of thicker trees and are found less above timberline. When they shed their velvet in Colo is close to the same time the high country gets it's first snows...which often can move bucks into different country. Feed, water, temperature, snow depth, cover, and hunting pressure usually dictate where bucks hang out so try to think like a buck in the particular area you are hunting and you'll likely find them! Also, if you know where the particular deer herd summers and winters you can figure out strategies where they may be.
