Both pics are terrible quality, I'd figured bad pic is better than no pic. They were both taken on June 28th. I didn't buy a phone scope til this week.

I killed this one in 2011. He was 33" wide.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-22-14 AT 01:48PM (MST)[p]One of the best I saw (best I was able to get a picture of) in my time on the Vernon during the 2011 season. I had the archery tag. Good deer live on the unit contrary to much of what you'll hear...not always easy to find, but the unit holds some good bucks no doubt about it. Good luck on the hunt, I had a blast and would love to have the tag again someday.

Backin, Yikes!!! That buck has "Book" written all over him. Cant see that other side front too well but if it's like the other side...Wow!!

I hunted for 4 days and only saw one other buck bigger than this one. It was a very fun hunt and I hope one day to go back. I saw a ton of deer. If I could do it again, I'd have spent more time glassing in the cedars. I think that is where the bigger bucks like to be.

I hunt chukars out there alot, we saw one back last year that will be a gagger this year. 3x4 with 2-3 kickers coming off the G2 on the three point side. Should be solid this year.

Let me guess, you drive a 1 ton with oak trees for smoke stacks, 12" lift kit and 40" tires to pull a single place lawn mower trailer?

Here is a Vernon buck that my dad shot about 3 years ago. We chased a nice buck that we had scouted all summer that ended up getting killed opening morning. You can expect to see a lot of 24" 4 points all over the place. We wanted something unique so when we saw this buck had to pull the trigger because of his height. This buck is just barely shy of 30" tall.

That's a good one, jeast!

On my hunt, I didn't see lots of 24" 4x4's around...I saw 10-15 bucks in 4 days and saw only one that went 24 wide. I spent a lot of time glassing. Not to discard what was said, but if you go there with those expectations, you'll be disappointed. That was my experience anyway.

I saw more like 20 bucks in 4 days....

LAST EDITED ON Aug-05-14 AT 09:06AM (MST)[p]We were seeing 20 different bucks each day.. I had a very good experience on the Vernon, i would much rather have the vernon tag than a book cliffs tag any day of the week. There were many good bucks to be had. A lot of the 24" bucks had crabby fronts which seemed kind of typical in some of the area. That is the reason we shot the buck we did, it had some different character and really good forks. Even though the width wasn't great we had a great time.

When getting ready for this hunt we scouted almost every weekend and were pretty set on a certain area. A few weeks before the hunt the bucks we had patterned were gone, and we made the decision to relocate. Once we did this we saw a lot of bucks and loved it.

PM me if you would like me to point you a good direction. I will let you know some of our favorite spots.

I would have to agree with cozy, 20 bucks a day is about right. And theres alot of good bucks this year.

This pic is from last week, it got me excited and I don't even have a tag. If you need any help PM me and ill point you in a good direction too.

lol Wiz, Didn't you have trouble finding Bucks in Nev and Wy too?

I know a guy like that but in fishing. I can set with him and catch my quick limit from a freshly stocked pond and he won't get a bite.

Like Bess says, just RAZZING YA!!

Nice thread guys!

I hear you, Joey! It seems that way doesn't it? LOL. I ended up getting a pretty good one in my book last year in NV. I must be looking in the wrong areas. :)

Wiz, it ain't how big you got or even how well you did, it's going that counts and the enjoyment that you get from it being with a good pard, family, or by yourself.

I didn't necessarily agree with that until my 40's or so but i've now believed in that for a good long while.

Smoking a dandy once in awhile does enhance the experience though! lol

LAST EDITED ON Aug-05-14 AT 10:49PM (MST)[p]Vernon bucks my family has taken. Sorry. Not working. Will have to try later

I'd have to agree with cozy and westdesertdandys as well so far. This year has been my first experience of the vernon. So far from my 20ish trips out there this summer, I can tell it is definitely going to be a tuff hunt. But no shortage of deer. I have days where I only see 10 bucks (with only 1 shooter) and days where I see 40+ buck with 4 or 5 shooters. The reason I believe it's going to be tough; the deer seem to be super un-patternable, nothing moves on evenings, the few good deer I have seen at night have been by fluke and I found them bedded. And there are roads everywhere. With that being said I still think it is doable, and by shooter I mean 175"+. I currently have 4 cameras hung and plan on hanging 1 more. I'm hoping all my due diligence pays off. Hopefully I have some pics to post following the hunt! Ps cozy and westdesertdandys pm sent! Thanks guys!

Be prepared to have people everywhere you are planning to hunt. The year I hunted I hardly ran into a person in all the scouting trips and when the hunt hit there were people on every knob. The deer get pushed hard opening weekend, so if you have one "patterned" get on him the first day or two, because odds are someone will break the pattern. Still a fun tag, but too many people in my opinion. Good Luck!

I was also shocked at the amount of roads on the Vernon. I'd be hiked in on a ridge and would glass guys on ATV's roll up a canyon, glass for 5 minutes, then move on to the next canyon. Even when I thought I was back far enough off the roads, I'd run into another ATV trail that would come up from the OTHER side of the ridge. Crazy...

That droptine is sweet! I hope to harvest a big droptine muley someday. Great thread and pictures.

@bjackson I have an archery tag
@tristate the unit is huge, it goes from basically same north as top of utah lake down to the south end of the dunes, and as Far East as vernon and eureka to as far west as you really want to go ( not an exact description, but that will give you an idea)
