Here's some better video of the 12x9 buck I found. I originally thought he was a 12x8, but no, 12x9. That counts the eyeguards. Cool buck or what? All those points just get me so excited!!! He's not gigantic, but has plenty of bone on his head and he's cool....... Bucks with that many points are rare.

I disagree with some opinions here, don't know how you could possibly pass that buck up given the opportunity. He's a toad and very fine example of what a Monster Muley looks like!!

I really like the part of the flick where it looks like the Sun is shining thru, making his antlers look semi-transparent!

Really Nice!

Very cool buck! I'm one of the weird ones though. I think that buck is 4-5 y.o and will be very disappointing without velvet. The risks and what-ifs are huge but that buck could be a monster in the future. Who knows, he may be maxed out with thin mass, but I'd like to see him in a couple years.
Regardless, it's been a good summer of scouting for you Flounder!

BCBOY was Right!

The Buck needs to live & Grow & Breed another 6-8 years!

elkassassin, you high or what?? 6 to 8 years. be sure and tell kitty cat that???

VERY few would pass that deer regardless of what they say. If this is a limited entry hunt you will never get to hunt him again anyways and if it is a general hunt someone else will likely kill him. I agree he may be only 3-4 years old but WHO PASSES A 200"+ INCH DEER! ... VERY FEW and those that do have already killed one or several 200"ers. All I can say is my dad is in his 60's and has tried to kill a 200" deer his whole life. He has several in the upper 190's but no 200". The 200" deer is VERY hard to come by for most hunters and if given a chance to harvest one it would be VERY HARD to pass. Sure if you hunt in a remote area (BC/Sask) or hunt private ground where you can be relatively certain no one else will shoot this deer it would be very fun to let him go a year or two and see what he does but on public land especially a general hunt I think you would be crazy to pass this deer and if it is a draw hunt (other than the Henrys)I think you have to shoot as well because you wont get the tag next year anyways. Just my 2 cents.

Awesome buck! Like you mentioned, his frame isn't monstrous, but he would be hard to pass up if I found him in my cross hairs.

MTQuivers hit the nail on the head. Kill him now while you have the chance or someone else will.

I wouldn't pass him up, great buck. Like I said in the other thread though, If I seen a great typical 4x4 next to him (185-190), this buck would be walking away to live another day.
Everyone is different and has different likes. Dream buck for 99% of hunters.

Let me guess, you drive a 1 ton with oak trees for smoke stacks, 12" lift kit and 40" tires to pull a single place lawn mower trailer?

I've seen 3 or 4yr old non typ's, and that's not what they look like at all. He's at least 5. He may have one year left of explosive growth beyond what he is now, but maybe not also. Shooter!!! Awesome buck, and impressive. He has the WOW factor, which is my gauge for a trophy.

Awesome buck. I'm fairly new to this site, but Mr. Brian Latturner would you like to be my friend? I can come and hunt with you and you can take pictures of me and that buck after I shoot it.

Let me know.

Thanks! LOL

I agree with Jason.

I'm somewhere between 99.99999999% and 100% that I'd shoot that buck.....any time any place. Period.

Let him grow up? my azz!
Zeke

The word pass shouldn't even be mentioned in this thread, I have pounded the mountains in multiple western states and in the remote back country my whole life and seen damn few bucks that compare to the footage you have. Guys/Gals can hunt a lifetime and never have the opportunity to harvest a buck of that caliber during season. Obviously the beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I would smoke his ass... Just my 2 cents! Whatever you choose, best of luck to ya.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-07-14 AT 05:21PM (MST)[p]Does it always have to be 200 inches? What's another 10? Brian is he a cool buck? Absolutely! Give him credit for what he is today and go out and kill him.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-07-14 AT 07:12PM (MST)[p]Seeing another look at him is very beneficial. He is as I suspected, young. His mainframe is what 160ish? does he have 40 inches of trash to break 200? I know if I saw this buck while scouting I would be damn excited as that is a great buck to put on a target list for upcoming years. For those who have never killed a big buck before, totally understandable if they were were to pull the pin on this guy. For someone that has numerous big bucks under their belt, yup, I can see this buck getting a pass. When your looking for a True Giant, you need to pass on dang nice deer like this one. You can't kill a Giant when your tag is punched already on an Okay buck. Sorry if this somehow offends people on this site. I thought this was Monster Muleys dot com not, kill the first decent buck you see before someone else does dot com. Eating your tag is a fact of life as a trophy hunter.

Hear that elkun?

BcBoy said, "...you need to pass on dang nice deer like this one. You can't kill a Giant when your tag is punched already on an Okay buck."

WoW, can you possibly be any more vain? There is a big difference between passing 24" 4X4 types and a toad 200+" 9X12. I know that you think that you are never wrong and always know better than the rest of us but that buck, is several notches better than you think!

I think everyone posting here is right on this one (including BCBOY).

close to a 170" Frame, 30" inches of extras minimum, should go over 200". Probably 5 years old. I'd love to see him at 6 and 7 and 8, but how could you possibly pass him on a pumpkin patch archery hunt in Utah.

Unless you have a better option somewhere, you have to give it your all to try and kill him now.

Nothing vain about it at all Sage. I have already stated I would not fault Founder or anyone else for pulling the pin on this buck, but for me, this buck would be super to sit on for a year or two. How does this make me vain? I have a goal of killing a True Giant and this one does not fit into that category. In my mind, he has the potential to be that True Giant, so why pull the pin too early on him. Right now I am hunting a 250 class Giant. Hell last season I had to argue with myself for thinking of passing a 190-200 inch typical because it wasn't the 250 buck I was after. I'm sorry if you think that is vain of me. I hunt for no one but myself. I have only killed 1 muley buck in the last 6 seasons because I am looking for something special. I don't care if I eat my tag. I enjoy the pursuit too much to cut my tag early. So if you think it is sad or vain of me to let 160 mainfrrame trashy bucks walk, oh well. I will keep on trying to fulfill my dreams regardless.

Pass that buck and let him live? Maybe where you live...

Founder has already said that he'll hunt him if he can, why tell him not to? Why is that your job and why do you feel like others here don't hunt just as hard for trophies as you do? Seems to me, every time you come here, you tell us lower 48 guys how it is, that we are wrong, and we need to do it like you do it. It's your vanity coming thru and to call this a "Okay" buck proves it.

With those long main beams, he's gonna be 170" plus mainframe and I count 30" of extras on just the one side! This buck will gross somewhere close to 220" before he's done if not close to that now.

How many 220" 9X12's come off lower 48 public not Island, Az strip, or Henrie's? Darn Few!!

LAST EDITED ON Aug-07-14 AT 09:00PM (MST)[p]Sage, can you read? Look at the other post on this buck. I stated I would not hold it against Founder if he hunted this buck. It is funny on a thread that asks if he is a shooter, you get someone calling you out if you say no. hahaha. Again I will state, for me, nope, not a shooter. I am not telling anyone what they should shoot or not shoot. I am saying if it was me, nope, not a shooter. Sorry if this offend you. You have something in your craw still because I disagreed with you on another thread once? Let it go man. Life is too short to hold onto petty thing like that.

Don't confuse the threads. This thread does not ask, he says he's going to hunt this buck! It's funny that he's not a shooter for you but he's better than most of the nice bucks that you so proudly post up every chance that you get!

Does not offend me at all. I'm just calling you out for the BS that you continue to post in these pages. The past is the past but here you start in all over again telling us how we need to do it! That just ain't gonna fly!

I'm with BCBOY on this one.

Founder,
Your the one that set your bar so high.
Your website is named (Monster Muleys)
The Main page Shows two great bucks.
You have posted up video of yourself killing bigger bucks.

Sure that is a better than average buck. Most hunters would love to brag about killing a buck like that. But I have to ask, why would someone like you do it?
I have to give you credit on a hot topic though. Overall you do a fine job here.
Keep up the good work.

sincerely.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-07-14 AT 09:42PM (MST)[p]Founder has stated, "While scouting the area here in Utah where I plan to hunt, this big boy showed himself. He's an 8x12**. Doesn't have a huge frame, but who cares! He's an 8x12 and has enough bone on his head for me to flip a stick. Maybe I'll get lucky."

So to some here, Founder taking this Buck with a Bow would amount to wasting a chance to get a big one?

I just can't believe some of you guys! I know guys that claim to be trophy guys that crap their pants when a regular ol decent buck jumps up in front of them. This guy shows up, 99.99% of you guys are either screwing up by ejecting all the rounds on the ground from your firearm or doing the best you can to dirt nap him! If he gets away, he was the New possible World record! :)

** has since been counted 9X12

I agree with bcboy, he will be right at the 200" mark, gross NT. Great buck and I wouldn't pass him unless on the Henries. However, if a person is wanting a true giant this buck is not it. He won't even make book.

All bcboy is saying that if it was him, he'd pass and If I was him I would too. He has shown some awesome bucks/sheds he has got and his standard is higher. Heck, my own standard use to be 5" spikes or bigger. As I get older and more tags punched my standard keeps going up. Right now mine is around 170" a dink to some people (bcboy- :) ) but a big buck to others. I hope to get to the point one day where the buck above will not meet my standard...
If Founder wants to tag him, I hope he does! Again great buck and in the end the size only matters to one person (tag holder) unless we get on a different subject then it matters to two people... lol

that buck would be a tough call. I don't see his numbers going much over 200, and on a NT that is by no means a monster. he is still very cool, and there would be no shame in taking a deer like that. I see why BC BOY would pass, as I would probably do the same. I want a giant and that deer has the potential to be an absolute giant. I am from BC as well, the seasons are wide open for three months and there is a lot of hunting pressure. but there still are some huge deer. Seeing deer like this where we are does not happen very often. and it would be an awesome day to see a deer like that.

different guys hunt for different reasons. I would rather hunt all fall chasing a monster than tag out on a decent buck early in the season and not get the chance on a true giant. it takes some self control not pulling the trigger on 170-180 class bucks but there are no regrets after the fact. like bc boy I hunt for myself, and could care less what others think. people cant comprehend why guys pass on big deer, but who cares that's their decision not yours. there was no disrespect shown on here until guys got their nose out of joint because someone said they would pass on that buck. why does it matter what someone else does? I never read anywhere that he said you should follow suit.

If Founder wants this buck and is able to take him with his bow as he's indicated that he will try, i wish him well. He or i nor probably a few hundred other guys around here need to be told that we have to pass up Monster bucks like this one to get a even bigger one. I lived that life for thirty years of good but hard muley chasing and so have many of you! I passed on way more than my share!

That's a Toad buck! I just rough scored him again at a 172" gross mainframe and 15+26" of extras for a 213 score... and he's not done yet!

Some of you are saying BCboy is right and that founder should choose for himself. How can that be when that's what i'm saying too. I'm not saying to pass this buck up like BCBoy and others are. I won't! This day and age, that's way too nice a buck and unless in one of the very top spots in the world, should maybe feel grateful for laying eyes on him let alone being able to get the nice clip posted above!

Founder, don't be inclined to not chase this buck just because some of these guys think it's too small for you.

Joey

LAST EDITED ON Aug-08-14 AT 07:59AM (MST)[p]yeah, there are bigger bucks but this is a giant. This is a once in a lifetime buck for most hunters. its fits "monstermuleys"...

These kind of threads make me laugh... the only reason i think you should pass is if you have a bigger one pegged already, and that said, if it was me and it was opening morning i wouldnt let him walk anyway. I did not read where this buck was, or maybe he didnt post it, so maybe it is a trophy unit and there are many more, but to say its not a monster muley is ridiculous..

Travis

I would hunt this buck 7 days a week, But I'm happy that other hunters have the will power to pass on a great buck, that just means I would be in line to take the ones they pass like this one.
To some this buck is a let him live buck for another year, to other hunters it is a shoot on sight buck. To each his own. ME I'm in the shoot on sight crowd on this buck.
Good luck hope you put a arrow in him.

I have no problem with guys who would shoot or guys who would pass. Unfortunately, talk is cheap, so I have no problem believing the guys who say they would pull the trigger. But I would have to see it to believe it when guys say they would pass up a shot at a buck like this.

There may be a few guys who really would pass up this buck, but I'm convinced there are a lot more who would say they would pass him up and then fling lead like a kamikaze if they really got the chance.

To those who really would pass him up, you have my respect.

You got 4 choices Brian:)

1. Save up for a Antelope Island tag.

2. Move up to BC and hunt with BCBoy.(just razzin' you Dana)

3. Keep looking for a bigger buck.

4. Hunt that buck.

I think you are making the right choice.:)

LAST EDITED ON Aug-08-14 AT 10:29PM (MST)[p]Wow. The "True Giant" status has now burgeoned up to 250 inches!! I can remember when 200 was THE "True Giant" mark. I guess though, that if you have several 200 inchers on your wall, you are entitled to pass on as many as you want to go for a 250 inch buck. HA HA - pretty nice problem to have Steve!

As for me, this buck would be the target. He is just super cool. Yes, he COULD grow bigger, but there are no guarantees of that one way or the other. I wouldn't hesitate. Not even for a second.

Gotta say I respect BCBoys outlook. That's why I hunt. To give myself the opportunity of killing the biggest deer I can find in the area I'm hunting. Yup, he has opportunities for trophys most of us don't get.,.but that doesn't make him a bad guy, just well located. His point is spot on- you'll never kill a giant if you kill one as big as you did last year. By being picky, it extends the time I get to play hunting. It prolongs the amount of time we get to spend doing what we all love...even if his trophy standards are different from yours

LAST EDITED ON Aug-10-14 AT 01:04PM (MST)[p]The question I will ask is how hard is it to draw a general archery tag in Utah? Can you get drawn in the same unit in back to back years? I know archery success is always low so if this buck lives in a unit where only archer's get a kick at him there is a good chance he could make it through to next season right? If he can be hunted by other weapons in different seasons, yup, he could get harvested this year. But that is not a certainty is it? Lots of bucks make it through the rounds year after year. They are the ones that the Gov Tag holders are praying someone will sell out now ain't they? I'm willing to bet this buck ain't a contender this year. If it is, then Bessy is truly right and you guys are indeed screwed. Hahaha. I know Founder has a very impressive trophy room with several bucks quite a bit bigger than this one to his credit. When you have numerous 200 inchers already, it makes it a lot easier to pass on larger bucks waiting for a Giant. Seems a lot are giving me grief on this thread regarding my comments and I can take it. I have been at this game for a long time and I do know the feeling of seeing trash and getting all worked up over it. I have learned through the years that the best way to fight ground shrinkage is to always take your time and keep your wits about you. IMO the two leading causes of ground shrinkage is 'width from behind' and 'visible extras'. A lot of times the excitement overtakes hunter and the trigger is pulled and then they have to live with the consequences. Looking at this thread, we have seen this buck go from having 30 inches of trash on one side alone down to 30 inches total both sides from the same 'expert' scorer. Hahaha. I wonder how many bucks have fallen in score once the trigger was pulled by that so-called expert? Hahaha. My hunting partners and I always rip apart each other's guesses when we have a new buck spotted, so we can keep each other honest and stay true to our goals. If you have to talk yourself into a buck to try to make it seem bigger, chances are it is exactly the buck you should pass on. This case can be made on all critters, bears, lions, sheep, goats, you name it. I've found bears are one that I follow this rule all the time. I've looked at a ton of bears and hummed and hawed about them. Is it a shooter? Is it not? If you are having that debate with yourself, 9.5 times out of 10, it is not a shooter. Having someone talk you out of pulling the pin is very helpful if you want to maintain your goals. I don't believe Founder posted this thread up so he could get a whole bunch of 'Nice Buck/Pics. Thanks For Sharing' comments. And no where in this thread did he tell us he didn't want our opinions. MM is moderated very well and lets us have discussions with multiple different opinions. I always get a kick out of the ones that always think if someone disagrees with them, then that person has to shut up or else. Hahaha. Sorry if my opinions offend some here. I don't think they offend Founder, as he has dealt with my opinions for a good dozen years now and has yet to ban me. LOL!

it doesn't matter what you say, Sage has the ability to read into it and determine what he thinks your thoughts are and will call you out for what he thinks you are thinking. A while back I was told I was the biggest POS because I commented on a thread about how to grow a big buck. He now has to call out my 'bs'. he ain't the first on MM to take a run at me and probably won't be the last. I have tuff skin and certainly won't be run off by him.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-10-14 AT 09:57PM (MST)[p]Mntman, Maybe not. Several have at least recommended to not shoot it though.

Spun? I'm not spun. I just don't believe that us hunters should be bound by others expectations. Founder called this buck a "Monster", i agree, and said that he'll archery hunt him. End of story? No!

Others say he's not big enough. I disagree not so much with their opinions, they are perfectly allowed but i still think this is a better buck than given credit, but how they say why founder should pass. This is how i'd do it, if i were in your shoes, you already took big bucks, if you want to be like me,...maybe not all in those exact words but that's what i'm reading.

In the end. It doesn't matter and i really don't care if you guys read my words on this or any subject. They are here because i feel they are worth reading, the rest and the advice taken is up to the individual.

BCBoy, The past is the past, get over it! Sounds to me as if you are the one who does not like my opinions on this subject. "Spun"
maybe?

I agree it is a great buck and I would shoot it at this point in my life. However, if a person is looking for one of the true giant bucks, this guy doesn't fit that bill. He won't make book even as a NT. In 10-15 years, I hope to have multiple 200" bucks under my belt and if I do, I'd pass that guy for the challenge and looking for a true monster! Seems like Founder has the hot spot, many big bucks located (hard work too) maybe there isn't one bigger in that area. Then I guess that leaves him no choice but to shoot ;)

Let me guess, you drive a 1 ton with oak trees for smoke stacks, 12" lift kit and 40" tires to pull a single place lawn mower trailer?

Founder don't be inclined to chase this buck just because some of these guys think its big enough for you.

hhhmmm, weird how that works huh. LOL

That being said if I had that buck in my sights there is no question I'm shooting him.

LOL Jake, nice use of my words...

This though is how i put them, "Founder, don't be inclined to "not" chase this buck just because some of these guys think it's too small for you."

Shoot him pass him no mind to me. I've been hunting over 40 years now with some of the best hunters from this state, in some of the best places out there. Between us, we have trophies bucks that would blow peoples minds. A bunch of these bucks would make book and to the man, of this little group a guys, none of us would pass this buck unless there was a bigger one standing next to him.
