Archery Success in September????

Hopefully you all are having more success than I'm having on the general season archery deer hunt. This is my first year hunting with a bow. I like it and have already learned some things/lessons. I've mostly enjoyed the scouting and finding a few good ones. Getting on them is another story. Just curious about others' experiences of being successful in September??? The bucks I've been hunting are really cautious and have noticed they're behavior has changed dramatically the last few days.

In my experience, they definitely change about this time. Heck, the buck I was hunting vanished a week ago and I can't find him. I don't think he's dead, just moved.

They can be had in September though. Things just have to workout. If they bed in the right spot for a good stalk, or do the same thing day after day, you can have success for sure.

My wife just took up archery hunting this year. She missed a 4-point on opening weekend at 25 yards. She's learning quick that shots like that don't come all too often. I tell her, she just has to keep after it. It's hard to get them, that's for sure.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-30-14 AT 09:37PM (MST)[p]+1 the first summer I lived here in co I was watchin a group of 5 bulls and a group of 3 bucks (the biggest heaviest 3x3 I've ever seen). They did the same thing every wknd, start the morning above treeline, stay in the shadows and feed into the timber. I thought what a piece a cake these western critters are. Labor day wknd....gone. Couldn't find em! Things definitely changed and I haven't forgotten that summer and the lesson those animals taught me that 1st summer back in 89

Montana doesn't ever open until Labor Day or later for archery. This yr it starts on the 6th of sept. I think the deer change patterns because of pressure. I think what you are seeing is two weeks into deer being buggered. If nobody has pushed the deer they are still in their patterns for the most part. Elk I believe leave because they are looking for tail.

High country deer stay in the same spots until the rut, hunters, or snow pushes them out.

Those are just my observations.
