How far will the sheep push the deer away and will they come back. I had one located and the sheep came in, its been 4 weeks and I cant turn him up anywhere. I have checked 3 different spots on the backside and kept an eye on where he was?
thanks

My experience has been about a mile. At least out of hearing distance of baaaa! I have a spot that about every three years the sheep hit it right before the muzzleloader. It seems that the deer will move back in before the rifle. About a month. I believe that not only do deer not like the sheep noise but also the smell. That's why I think it takes time for them to move back in. Another thought is the sheep eat the crap out of everything so the deer don't have the feed to move into also. Just my 2 cents.

I have heard everything from it doesn't bother them to their gone until next year. I am sure it is somewhat in between and a month could definitely be possible. I was glassing a basin when the sheep dogs came in to push out the yotes prior to bringing the sheep into the basin. these dogs ran up and down the mountain through every piece of brush and I watched a dozen deer (mostly bucks) run like hell out of that big basin over the top into the next drainage. They didn't run out of the next drainage, but I am not sure if they stayed or not. After the sheep go through, everything is mowed down like a lawnmower had cut the grass. Another variable that is important is how the sheep move from basin to basin, what I saw was the sheep went up a large drainage and hit the basins on the south side first in mid-summer and then came down the north side of the drainage back to the beginning during late summer/early Fall. If a buck was to get bumped twice by sheep in a summer/fall, he might not come back for a while.

My thoughts are usually within 1 1/2 miles. big bucks often have 2 or 3 bedding and feeding areas. He wont leave too far in new country that he doesn't have feeding, bedding, or water source.
One thing to remember, sheep usually graze in the same general areas, about the same time of the year. The buck is used to moving, I agree because of noise and smell. Would you like to live by a herd of Sheep? I have seen a 2 point buck water in the middle of 50 sheep at a water hole, which he didn't seem to mind. I don't know if he spent a lot of time in the same area.

Sometimes after a buck rubs, he will move to a new area also. More often he will still be in the same area. Good luck finding your buck.

Last year in Idaho I shot my mule deer buck within 500 yds of a sheep flock on the same piece of public ground. Also saw several does in the area too.
