Rant about Town Bucks

I've been on this site since 1999 and one thing that has always held true is that there is high drama about high fence hunts (like in my home state of Texas) and town bucks being killed.
Inevitably most western hunters #####& moan about how their methods are true "fair chase" , no fences, etc., and baiting deer is unethical yada yada yada. However when you come right to the point- these giant town bucks and cemetery bucks people brag about killing are much less of an accomplishment than killing a big buck in Texas behind a 10,000 acre fence. And I've never even killed a high fence buck, but have hunted them (whitetails).
What in the he** does killing a tame city buck (yeah I know he was miles from a road and gets wild once the first shot is fired!) prove? Absolutely nada! Yet the amount of hunters that go after them is ridiculous and don't even get me started on the shed season crap!

Thanks

Shooting tame city bucks is gay just like high fence shooting. So what's your point? And who's bragging about killing a tame city deer?

You make some interesting points T264. In fact, you've spawned some thought in my own head.

These bucks are a double edged sword. First of all, these deer are not "tame". They were at one time smart, hung out inside city limits and have learned that they are safe in a particular area. This same behavior is found in "the wild" as well. When a hunter finds one of these locations, it's called a "Honey Hole". I will say that the deer likely becomes accustomed to people, having less fear, but that is also true of many LE units here in Utah. If you kill one of these town bucks legally, frankly, you have outsmarted a deer that has until that moment been too smart to get killed. It is still an accomplishment. For example, the cemetery buck killed last year on the Utah Extended, to me, was an accomplishment. That buck eluded so many other obstacles for so many years, and then an archer found him, and harvested him legally. It was brilliant. And if he hadn't been killed, he'd be back in the cemetery right now, laughing at us all once again (or eaten by domestic dogs).

I think town bucks are harder to kill. You are under public scrutiny, near anti-hunters, near legal/illegal hunting areas, and you have to do everything exactly right so that you are 100% above reproach.

It's like killing a 200" buck from a highway. How many 200" deer are killed by road hunters, just off a highway..?? None. So if you are the lucky guy to do it one time, that should be awesome... But you will get nothing but flac for it... :)

High fence hunting is lame! Bragging about killing a high fence buck is like bragging about sleeping with the ugly fat girl in high school.

Ridn9high, I swear, I never bragged about that girl. Who told you that?:)

Eel

Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded.

I agree- and also equivalate it to killing a town buck. Not saying there is anything wrong with it but I just do not see where the accomplishment would be.
