ya plus one........well the guy looks older then me so i'll give him props for being able to pay for a hunt with doyle....ya i'm a little jealous

Kinda looks like a few i've seen taken way back when. He'll look good mixed in with his others!

It'll be interesting to see what the public draw hunter takes for his buck.

I'm a wondering now:

Maybe I shoulda saved every Damn Dime I've ever put in to Mule Deer Hunting over the Last 35+ Years and Hunted the Island Just one time & got that 40"er for the Wall!:D:D:D

Drug deal gone bad? Looks like he knee capped him first? But I am jealous, sweet buck, tip of the cap!

sweet buck, there are higher scoring deer out there. Yelum shared the pics this summer, I am sure he just shot that one due to it being 40".
How many mule deer have ever been shot that are 40" wide or bigger?

There are many things that would be nice to wish for or say but then I would be just like him.

That gives me a Bad Idea NVB!

Maybe I need to Stretch My PISSCUTTERS!

I'd say this is a very rare one being in the 40" typical category.

Bessy, its WideLoad,
DW, not a knee shot, that's a rock. One shot 440 yards.

Is scored 223, and it Mossbacks 1st true 40 inch buck. The only one Denny wanted. The state hunter is a HER, and she will kill a giant. Most big bucks are now smaller due to breakage.

Yellum,

I hope you get this tag some day. I'd even give you a few points to the cause if I could.

223? Jeez

Very cool buck, congrats to ALL involved.

I keep looking at it genetically. A tall narrow buck would should whoop it in a fight.

I always look at a buck and wonder how its head gear would do in a fight. Yea.. Weird I know.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-10-14 AT 07:32PM (MST)[p]We all have out quirks when we look at a big buck. Me, i was looking at that inside spread. That, and trying to figure just how long those main beams could be. Weird, i too know.

I only saw him 1 time in Early July from 2.2 miles away this year. Glassed him up in his bed, no pics. I did a guess the width post on him a few months ago, using last years pics. A friend of mine got lucky on a hike and filmed him last week. He had never seen him before.

Beams are 29+ and 28+. Inside spread is 40. 223 is an sci score, getting the full inside spread.

Thanks Smelly, but I don't think I could pull the trigger out there. Would have fun with the full access though, filming bucks I've never seen.

If the hunter, Denny, is happy that's all that really matters! He pulled the trigger & made the decision to take the critter! Maybe he wanted a really wide buck? David

What an incredible buck! Congrats to Denny Austad for being able to live out his dreams. This reminds me of meeting him in 2008, up on Monroe. He seemed like a genuinely nice fellow.

Nice spread on that one. Personally I think I liked his buck from two years ago the best. It would be way cool if someone could put together a post with his bucks from the Island. Would be something to see all his bucks in the same post.

Bessy,

Nunya's comments last year were classic but maybe not so classy. He cracked me up & I still get a smile when I think about his AI posts. I just wish I would have printed them off before they were taken down. His wording was too perfect to try and recreate.

Congrats to Denny and to the island for what the money will do for all. Awesome place to visit and see the wildlife.

Bessy aka elkass, you know I don't get to hunt on Dildoyle Douchebacks magical island of tame deer anymore.
Looks like a 325 thousand dollar deer to me:)

Congratulations Denny and Doyal on the 40 incher!!!!
No one consistently puts giant bucks on the wall like Denny, no one!!!!!!!
You the man Denny!!!!!!!
Man, Nobody can find huge bucks like Doyal and his group of top notch guides!!!!!!!!
How many huge bulls and bucks can Doyal and team find in a single season???
I don't know but it's getting crazy impressive!!!!!!!!
Way to go guys!!!!!!

Sweet buck, 40 is so rare to see, big congrats to the entire hunt team again! Man I wish I could hit the lottery for 100 million then I would try to get that tag and then do something really stupid. Go unguided with my pops and prob shoot a buck that would sure make me happy but not be the biggest unless I got lucky. 40 inches would create a good argument in my house on where to hang it and if I could get permission would be tougher than getting the tag!!!Ha

>shotgut1.. does doyal give you knee
> pads?????

That's some funny schnit right there! Don't care who ya are...

Smiling knowing that buck looks like a dink compared to a $35 general season buck smacked here in Colorado that his money and "top notch guides" missed .LOL

And here is another place where I think people are either uninformed or illogical. I have never known anyone to hire a guide for the purpose of killing the biggest buck in the USA. I don't think anyone who saw the picture of the awesome Colorado deer instantly regretted paying what they did to whatever guide. If they did they are missing the point of hunting also.

I think Denny is fully aware that with millions of deer, hundreds of millions of acres to hunt, and millions of hunters out there covering all that acreage, he more than likely isn't going to kill the biggest buck in America.

tristate keep telling your self that b s ,the point is to hunt!! not just to shoot!!!! and brag>>>>

Who's bragging elkun? Did Denny send you an e-mail personally? Did he wake you up in the middle of the night telling you about it? If this is bragging then the kid that killed the 300 inch deer in Colorado falls right under your definition of braggart also. Bragging isn't defined by a dollar bill. QUIT MAKING UP REASONS TO HATE PEOPLE AND EVENTS BECAUSE IT COST MORE MONEY THAN YOU WERE WILLING TO SPEND!

You want a reason to get mad here you go. DENNY IS A BETTER HUNTER THAN YOU ELKUN. He may not climb the mountain as well as you. He may not know as much about deer patterns as you. He may not be able to see as well as you. Even if you killed bigger deer than him every single year and it only cost you the price of a tag and you did it by yourself each time. AS LONG AS YOUR HATE OUTWEIGHS YOUR JUDGEMENT DENNY WILL HAVE YOU BEAT. You will measure yourself against him each time you come out of the mountains whether he wants you to or not and therefore you are beaten. Just as you measure yourself both in character and success now against him.

Just curious Elk, if you could post up any articles, videos, or statements were Denny is bragging about his hunting abilities. I know a lot of people say he is, but I don't remember seeing it.

Doyle also helped two young ladies kill a great ram and another 220+ buck out there as well. Should we start a couple more threads to slam these two trigger pullers? Really, whats the point. What is it you want us to know, about people you don't know. Was Denny a hunter like yourself when he was young?

I have a house full of mule deer I didn't kill. I love to look at them as the beautiful animals they one were. Am I not considered a hunter? I seriously doubt any of us hunt like our grandfathers did. Would they considers us no longer hunters?

Just something to think about.

YELUM, my friend, I will take that challange. I HUNT THE EXACT PLACES my ancestors did. I hunt with the only rifle my dad gave me(back in 90'), its a 06' just like the old timers worshiped. I pack the BUCK knife my dad gave me when I was 12. After he died I put HIS rifle sling on my gun. My camp is filled with mostly retired guys(i am 40), whom I have hunted with each of the last 36 years. THERE ARE TONS OF US who do it this way!! To try and pretend that what Denny does is pretty much the same as what anyone else does is preposterous, your way to smart to even try to make that argument. The island is a lost cause, to bad, but it is. But PLEASE, for the love of god, Denny is a trigger puller, always has been, and this is the easiest job Doyle has ever had. He scouted the island every year since Denny and SFW paid off the state(yeah I know there was one other puller). The deer don't leave, they can't. The areas that hold the deer(where there is fresh water) haven't changed. Yes he has to field judge, but lets not pretent that he searched the world over and is some big deer "whisperer". There are big deer out there, you can see them whenever you want(although it costs 6 figures to have drive up access and a closed island). He killed a big deer, doyle got paid. And in other news last night a hooker had sex!

Weren't there some deer taken off the Island and put elsewhere?

It would be nice to think that this Bucks offspring are healthy in their new location and going to be anything at all like grandpa here next season.

Yes, 97 does were removed from the island this last February and all or most all of them were pregnant with twins. Forty-seven were released on the Oak Creek Unit and 50 were released on the San Juan unit. See the thread "Parowan Front Transplant #2" (on page 2) for updates on how the mothers are doing. Some of them died while pregnant and some have died after delivery during nursing, so we have lost some offspring already. But any surviving male offspring won't show daddy's or grandpa's traits anyway for a few more years, so you're gonna hafta wait longer than next season!

elkfromabove, Thanks for the update...and you're right, next years offspring might be a just a little thin in the horn! :)
