My buddy and i had a great opening day this year harvesting 2 good bucks. My buddy had practiced a lot with a custom rifle he built and decided to try his luck on a buck in a tough spot. 871yd shot with 2 camera angles.

Hope you enjoy the video!

Ryan Rightmeier and i were entered into a contest. Help us out by clicking the link, watching our video, and sharing the link. We put a lot of work into this season as well as the video. I hope you enjoy it. We learned a lot of lessons this year.

Nice deer. Love the character of the first buck. Sorry guy, but don't like the 871 yard leg shot, then miss, then the kill. Hope one of the lessons you guys learn this year is not not to video and then post these type of shots unless you can make them the first time, every time.

I have shot in sniper competitions and can routinely hit 10" plates at a 1,000 yards in field conditions. With that said, I limit my shots to 400 yards on game animals to insure a clean, quick and recoverable kill.

Hey xitnet?

What kinda Gun You got Built up?

Pics?

My hunting rifle is chambered in 300 WSM and built on a 700 action. It has a Lilja 25" barrel and Jewell trigger. It's in a McMillan A1-3 stock and the glass is a Leupold 4.5x14 with B&C reticle.

Sold my sniper rifle last summer but it was an Accuracy International (AWM) 300 Win. Mag. with a U.S. Optics 5-25x58mm scope.

Great video work...and a couple of real nice bucks too. However...I gotta say that the 800+yard shot is not something to be proud of guys. You made two poor shots before you could put him down. Sorry...videos like this do the sport more harm than good. Again, the video work itself was impressive though!

Reminds me of a monkey humping a football...

I try to keep from posting negative stuff but you 2 should learn to shoot and dont video your lame ass shots at 800+ if you have not learned this.

Makes us all look like monkeys thx boys.

Here it comes Nick, look what you started. All the Internet hunters and so-called snipers are gonna give it to ya. Goal accomplished, deer are dead and people are jealous. Good job

Idahoshedhead,
Wasn?t putting Muleymaster down, just giving some constructive criticism of the video since they put it on Youtube. If the first two shots were edited out, it would have been fine for the non-hunters to see. When we put a video out for the world to see, we need to be careful that we show hunters in a positive light. Hopefully he'll get it and understand because you surely don't.

I'm certainly no real sniper, just shot some competitions and I'm not the least bit jealous. Always proud to see my fellow hunters bag their trophy.

Great job on the video Muleymaster, nice bucks too.

After reading some of these post on here You'd think your buddy was the first guy to ever take three shots at a Deer!

I don't know you personally, but from seeing your threads and posts through the years on here I do know you live and breathe Mule deer, I also know you ain't no slacker, it's obvious you put lot of hard earned miles on them boots, filming, scouting, looking sheds and hunting.
Looks like you fellas busted yer ass to get into some rugged steep country away from roads and it paid off.
Congratulations on some fine looking bucks.

And thank you for proudly serving our great nation by being a member of the armed services.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-05-14 AT 12:00PM (MST)[p]I have seen worse shooting and far worse wounding at less than 100 yards. You hit the deer with 2 of 3 shots and it was dead within a minute or two of the original shot. Looks like you had done enough shooting at distance to be confident enough to make the kill. I am sure there were folks in that same area who were letting lead fly at much smaller bucks at greater distances who didn't get the job done as nicely as you did.

I'll admit that I am not a long range fan per se, and from a pure shooting standpoint, it was less than perfect, but I will be hard-pressed to argue with your results.

Keep practicing and building confidence and next time you can shoot one that far away and at that extreme of an angle directly in the brain stem so that it dies immediately - before its brain even perceives that the central nervous system has been disconnected from the rest of the body. Then you can post it on here and the MM crowd can find something else about it to criticize. ;-)

Congrats on two great PUBLIC LAND, DIY, GENERAL SEASON bucks!!

HOOK 'EM!

Good looking Bucks.
LOT more deer are shot at more then 3 times. That was still some good shooting with that steep angle. If it was a coyote you wouldn't hear a peek from the NO LR shooting crowd.

Constructive crtitsim boys...

One quick question you boys say "extreme angle" and 871 yards... Are you just inet bragging or ##### swinging about the distance or did you even account for angle? My question is what was the exact distance you were you in reality were shooting with the angle accounted for - is it 871 or did you boys just want to get that number as high as you could to impress us all here at mm... Lol!

One lucky hit and one blown off hoof out of 3 shots is pathetic in my book but then again I would have known how far the bullet was traveling and I would not have to emptied my gun to figure it out....
