Video of "Colorado's Deer"

Saw that earlier today.

Great to see such a humble guy and good family guy with a stud deer.

200K would be hard to pass up though.

I watched it and was impressed by the way he handled himself. I'm not sure if I could pass up 200k. Would make you stop and think for a second.

>Is that what he was offered?
>By whom?

Did you watch the video? go to the 4:32 mark. He doesn't say who offered it.

I would guess someone like Cabelas or Bass Pro, purely speculation though.

Must've missed that part the first time, I did notice the 200k offer part the second time. I'd have a hard time turning that much money down as well, tough decision.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-17-15 AT 11:35AM (MST)[p]Hey guys, first time poster here, but I've been a reader of this forum for a while now.
I am the President of goHUNT.com, and I wanted to post to share this short film that I recently produced and thought some readers of this forum would enjoy since I know me and my hunting buddies got so excited when we heard about it. Im happy to see a forum go'er has already found the film and posted it to MM.

Just a little backstory -

I wanted to reach out to Brett and make this film because I know how I would personally feel if the same situation happened to me. I've been hunting since I was able to walk and harvesting deer since the age of 12, and I know a deer like this is what we dream about each season. After speaking with Brett, I got the sense that the story behind this unlikely hunter killing this possibly record breaking deer would make for an interesting film, and you never really hear about what happens after the hunt is over. During the filming of this, I spent 4 days with Brett and his family in Grand Junction, Colorado and got to hear how his life has been changing as result of this hunt and some of the interesting situations that go into being a part of a historic kill like this. For example, Brett had insurance companies determining what it would cost to insure the antlers, which I think most of us wouldn't have ever thought about, but for Brett it has to be a realistic consideration.

I wanted to jump on here and make myself available to answer any questions you guys might have or anything you would like to know about the making of the film.

Looking forward to talking about this with you guys.

Let me know what you guys think of it -

Enjoyed watching Brett and his family tell their story. Great way to honor both the buck and hunter.

To be perfectly honest, if the purchase of the antlers allowed for a replica set for myself... I think I'd do it. I can't even express how life-changing $200K would be for someone like me. I'd have never considered that even happening until he mentions it in the film. And if it was Cabela's, I might be able to see it myself from time to time, and share it with the entire world through replica mounts...

Looks like it couldn't have happened to a better guy and a better family... I think this buck epitomizes everything us "Regular Joes" hope for each year. Hunting where we like to hunt, where there are not a lot of big bucks, but then you stumble across one by pure happenstance. Opportunity meets preparation = LUCK. :)

Really enjoyed the film and his family values in addition to the monster deer. Obviously, very well made film. Congrats to the young man and his family.

A story like that keeps the dream alive for all of us. What an incredible animal and an even finer story.
Good on the young man and his family!

I believe it was cabelas who offered him 200k but I have a funny story about that.

I asked Roger with the Eastmans Muledeer tour how much they offered Brett and he laughed.. He said ," no one would offer him money like that. We didn't offer him anything. That's not how it works." I chalked up what I had heard about the 200k as BS until I saw this video on facebook.

I am sure glad that someone like Brett got this buck , on public land and has a great story like this.

Eat your heart out Mike Brownlee !!

I would take 200K. However it would be to keep the antlers and allow them to be replicated. So, yeah, give me 200 K and you can have a replica.........Nice buck BTW......

Congratulations on a great buck and thank you for your military service to our fine country!!! Excellent video, too! Always nice to hear a story about a good person/family taking a critter of a lifetime.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-19-15 AT 05:54PM (MST)[p]Great job on a well produced film. I love it when down to earth people like Brett kill BIG bucks. It never gets old looking at a buck of this caliber. I have looked at the top all time bucks gracing the pages of B&C, and I dare say this is one of the prettiest nontypical's ever taken by a hunter. Bucks like this are the reason I religiously apply and hunt CO.

BTW you could have around 160 replicas made and sell them for $1500 a piece and clear 200K after production costs, and best of all you get to keep the originals.......just saying.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-21-15 AT 09:59AM (MST)[p]Interesting! When I heard what he said about a 200k offer to his fiance seem like a half hearted joke.
I don't believe he was offered a legitimate 200k.
Also you could tell he was somewhat disappointed at the score!
That's world we live in today it's everybody else's expectations we try to live up too!
That's an awesome deer killed by a nice young man from a good family and it don't get no better than that !

Met the young man and saw the mount in person at the Expo. First impression was that he's a fine young man and personally, I couldn't be happier for him. Great story, great deer & fine young man.
