Hello,
looking for advise. I am sitting on 12 Resident points and am considering this hunt. I have been in the Pauns Muzzy pool for a while now and am thinking of making the switch. Besides one side being a 3 point, I am thinking that I could probably connect on a similar sized or even bigger deer on the Henry's. Not to mention seeing a bunch of Hogs just before the rut. What are the thoughts of all you "experts". haha. I have been on the Henry's during the rut taking pictures the last couple years and have seen some dandy management bucks. Seems like this hunt would be a blast. I have not spent any time on the Pauns during the muzzy season, so I have no idea what it takes or where the big boys are hiding during that season. Thanks for the tips and advise.

I'd say you have answered your own question. You've been to the Henry's during or near when you would be hunting. You have seen animals that you would have killed. And you're years away from a guaranteed tag either way...

Go for the Henry's...

Rage,
Maybe I am wrong, but looking at the draw report, I was under the impression that I am very close to a Henry management tag and still a few years from a pauns tag?? Am I missing something??

Last year 13 was guaranteed for Pauns muzz, would likely move to 14 this year. In 2013 Henries management was 12, so probably about 14 this year. Those 2 tags are likely to be about the same odds, pick the one you'd rather have!

Ok. It's good to hear the more factual info on the draw odds. Next question.. I have my goals set on a 180" or bigger buck.. In the opinion of the MM crew. Which hunt provides the better chance at achieving this goal??

A 180"management buck is a pretty tall order. But a 180" buck on the Pauns muzzy might be just as tall. I've spent a lot of time on the Pauns legit 180" is gonna be tough. If you're just looking for a fun hunt and a truly mature buck, 6 yr old or better, I honestly think the Henry's is your best bet. But if score really matters I'd go Pauns, you never know when you'll find a 200" and you could still shoot him with that tag.

Muley,
Like I said in my original post. I have been on the Pauns during the management hunt, but never during the muzzy season.. Is the Pauns similar to the Bookcliffs as far as this hunt being right during the migration, making it hard to locate deer as they are so spread out?? Obviously with as many points as I have accrued, I would like to take a very nice buck, but I think enjoyment of the hunt far outweighs the size of the rack. That is why the Henry's Management is even on the radar. Decisions, decisions..

Henry's Buck being 3 point on one side would a tall order for 180 and above, BUT I'm sure you would find a Buck with the mass and width that would a wallhanger for you and make you pull the trigger.
