I have a friend I've known for about 20 years. I met him at work and we fish together a lot. He told me that he lived in Wyoming for 5 years back in the 1970's working in a mine out of Rock Springs. I asked him if he ever did any hunting while living in Wyoming? He said he wasn't much of a hunter, but he hooked up with a couple guys he worked with at the mine and shot a couple antelope and one deer. He said the deer he shot was up out of LaBarge. It was a heck of a big buck that dressed out at 325. He said his brother liked the rack so much that he offered to have it mounted. His brother keeps it at his house. That was the end of our conversation, and many years go by.

Last week I picked him up at his house and we went fishing. We had one of our better days where we both limited on big Redtail perch. Anyhow, we're driving home and he said his brother is moving and he came over and dropped off his deer mount. He hung it in the back room and offered to show it to me when we got home. I said "Sure, I'd like to see it." Imagine my surprise.

He said he shot it with a 7mm Mag with open sights at about 150 yards. Someone in Rock Springs did the taxidermy and he admits he was pretty disappointed with it.

Eel, if he's interested, your friend might well have a B&C Record Buck.

Going with a 180 Main Frame, i see around a 230 non-typ score.

Joey, my best friend here is an official measurer. I sent him a few photos. Thanks for your score opinion. The owner is interested in having it scored after I convinced him what he has. I think B&C minimum non-typical is 215?

It's written in the good Book that we'll never be asked to take more than we can. Sounds like a good plan, so bring it on!

Steve, i think for the all-time "Book", it's 230 Min. That's net non-typ score. Maybe. What do others think on this, would he net 230??

Certainly not a mount you would pay for and be happy with these days, however there is defiantly a nostalgia every time I see one of those old mounts. I like it! And yes he is a contender for an all time boon & crockett entry.

That deer has easily 55 inches of extras. I would bet money it makes the all time book, with a score of 235-340.

Yeah, i agree. The only reservations that i have is sometimes it's tuff to tell just how big the main frame is from pics. He looks to me like he has a 180+ type frame, could be.

Also looks like his right G-2-3 business is messed up a bit from typical configuration and no doubt there will be some deductions off the main frame in that area.

Eel, this would be a great buck to do a guess the score contest. First prize, one wild and crazy free getaway weekend at Overton's beachfront place in Shelter Cove. RELH will be providing security, Hardway will be doing the cooking, Kilo will be hosting a slide show, and Paul Crawford will be your Bartender. :)

Thank you YELUM, I appreciate your input.

I heard back from the official measurer here in town:

"Hi Steve,
This is definately worth measuring! the 4-point frame looks good. lots of extra points which will add up. I wont guarantee that it will make it, but we should for sure measure it."

Regardless, it's amazing to me that this buck lay hidden for all these years with such a unique story.

That is a great buck.It would look alot better with decent taxi job,and alot bigger.I don't know muley scoring very well, but I'd say 230 easy.

Joey! LOL! You crack me up Bud! Not RELH. He would demand the honey hole map or bring out the kerosene. LOL! I like the rest of the deal though!
