I'm thinking about putting in for a unit 70 mule deer non-res tag. Any one have or heard of success stories in the unit or what I could possibly expect? Thanks in advance.

I know the unit very well.
Your odds of drawing are low as in all of the controlled units. There are a good number of bucks but mostly on private ground. The local hunters are the ones taking most of them. You can expect low success on public land.
If you do draw I can share a few spots that will give you a chance. That will also depend on your abilities to make it happen.
P.M. for more details.

Gonna call bull on that. Ive hunted that and sure some of the local scumbags trespass onto private ground and shoot deer, but the public land on that unit is huge! There are big bucks up high and down low. Not a lot in between in the midlands.
The unit is also huge. The area the guy above me is talking about is off Walker Creek and along the old highway. Yeah sure you'll get into private there but the fact is there are trails all over to get you in to public ground even over on the other side of Scout Mountain and into Arbon Valley.
Ive seen big bucks over on the Pocatello Bench. There isn't as much pressure now that Idaho Fun and Games has taken away the archery tag to general season holders. Now the only archery hunters are poachers and those that have tags for the 70 deer tag.
General season tag holders are no longer allowed to archery hunt 70 which was a huge asz mistake.
Put in.. you have just as much chance of drawing as do the residents.. look at the numbers.

I agree with HyoWyo!!! We've grown up in SE Idaho and have hunted that unit many times. There are great deer to be harvested up there. Yes, there is some private property but the public access is great! Just hunt harder and smarter than the rest and you can turn up great deer. For example, a good friends of our missed a 190+ deer just last year. Never found him again, so he's up there roaming around still. Good luck to ya!
