Well...I did not draw my archery Elk tag...because I put my name in the hat for some far out deer tag that I thought was impossible to draw:
SUCCESSFUL: Premium LE Rifle Buck Deer

Hunt: Paunsaugunt Weapon: Any Legal Weapon Your season date(s): Oct 17 - 25, 2015

I might need some tips for the once in lifetime chance for me.

Holy crap....

congrats on the tag. how many points? my brother in law drew that tag last year with zero points. ya if you look at the draw odds he was that guy.... he had a good hunt. i can PM you his number if you would like and you can pick his brain.

Yes thank you!

I had 6 NR points, so I'm in the same class as one of 'those guys' lol

This will be a DIY hunt for me

That is really cool! Good for you. Should be a fun hunt for you.

Is the Pauns. as good or better than the Henrys?
I had 18 points in for the Henrys and no draw.

Congrats---a great six point draw--that is such a fun hunt and see lots of bucks! The only thing I can say is that is too bad it closes so early this year---but still a super fun hunt!!

Not even close to Henries...I have a decision
to make!!
But I have hunted it twice before. It's okay for 6 points!! Not what it used to be!!
You will have fun..lots of avg bucks (17"-19" 4x4's).

The Paunsagaunt is great. It's not the Henries but a world class hunt. 17-19" bucks are very common And are dinks for this unit. There are some big boys there and are enough to go around for those lucky tag holders.

It this a drive jeep trails, find the high spots, them climb to glass till your eyes bleed hunt?

I will be practicing out to 400 yards with my 300WSM

What do you think of the Federal 165gr partitions?

Thx
Bill

This is an awesome hunt. I had this tag in 2012. The unit definitely has major trophy potential, but the big bucks aren't around every corner. I'd be willing to give you some pointers.

The one caveat is I hunted before they put up the fence on 89. I don't have any clue how this has impacted the migration. This is 100% a migration hunt.

89 has alot of road kill and fence kinda herdsthem up ....
Doyle of Mossbacks has been seen hanging around them so a few nice brutes must also hang around it.. maybe a good place when the push to the ditch is on. I like south of 89..not alot of public land..
