Anyone else that didn't draw their tag, please feel free to whine about it here with me...

I thought that being at the very top of the points pool for the Book Cliffs Rifle (North or South) would give me a great chance at the new Multi Season Tag out there this year. I was wrong. apparently there were other guys who wasted 12 points or more on it, or enough guys with 11 points that jumped to that tag to muscle me out... :-( No deer tag for me this year.

Here's my email regarding the Book Cliffs Multi Season Deer (11 points):

Thank you for your recent applications for Big Game. Your results are as follows:

UNSUCCESSFUL: Limited Entry Buck Deer

Rage,
The problem is all of us look at the same point data from last year and assume that we are in the "Top" point pool. The sad reality is, unless you are holding the "actual top" points, anyone can decide to move in ahead of you. And even if you truly have top points, you still have compete with many others with the same number.
I disappointed myself for several years on my desert sheep tag, thinking I was for sure going to draw because I had "top" points. But I had to wait until there were only 4 of us left for the 5 permits we were vying for. I was literally in the last group to draw in my point pool.
None the less, I eventually drew and had the hunt of my life.
Patience is a virtue that most of us don't have!
Best of luck next year.

I thought you'd pull that tag with the number of points you had! The new hunts must have got more attention from guys with more than 10 points than I expected. I thought for sure someone in our hunting group was going to pull a late muzzy tag and nothing. 0 for 6!

My bet is the multiseason permits would take 2-3 more points to draw than the any weapon tag. Seems every year there are a handful of high point holders who switch to any weapon tags on the marginal units. Stands to reason that those high point holders would just apply for the multiseason permits.

I wasn't holding my breath for either tag as I only had 5 points for LE Deer and 10 for Mt. Goat. However, there's always a chance to draw, which sparks a little bit of hope, especially as I gain more goat points, which always makes it difficult to receive the "Unsuccessful" email!

Thank you for your recent applications for Big Game. Your results are as follows:

UNSUCCESSFUL: Mountain Goat

16 times now I've read "UNSUCCESSFUL" for both Elk and Moose. And probably several more years to go.

It use to bug me early on. But then I discoverd what hard work and an out-of-state general season elk tag could do. Now it's no big deal, some day, but until then I'm having way too much fun hunting.

Amen Forky I cant belive people are drawing the books with 15 pts. I'd take most out of state tags over that.

I knew the odds were against me when I applied for muzzle loader elk (13 points) on the Boulder and mountain goats (11 points) on the late season Willard Peak hunt. I will be back next spring applying with 14 and 12 points. Good luck to those that drew tags. I might have to move back to Utah someday so I can burn some points. Hopefully, Nevada is generous to me this year.

Happy hunting.

Sorry for you Rage!
+1 to everything LBH said.

Hey, I'm in the opposite position: I drew a great LE deer tag and can't feel good about keeping it. I'll surrender it the day I receive it in the mail and hopefully make someone happy.

Better luck next year.

Zeke

I feel your pain man!! I thought I would draw a muzzy LE elk tag for sure with 16 points but must have had quite a few guys jump over this year with more points and bump me out. I had already been dreaming and planning for the hunt so it hurts quite a bit, but I guess those things will have to be put on hold until next year if all goes well:) To make matters worse, I didn't even draw a dang General season Utah deer tag!!

On the bright side, my 12 year old son drew a general season muzzy deer tag for his first big game hunt. It will be nice to focus solely on helping him kill his first deer. It also looks like I drew a 3rd season Colorado deer tag as well, so I think I can pull myself out of this post-Utah draw funk!

Well, I have been applying for L.E. Buck deer for 19 years and still no draw.
I propose the name of the state be changed to: UNtah.

I'm in the same boat Dillion , thought I had a shot at archery on the Boulder with 14 NR but not in the cards this year. Hope we can stay in touch to help each other when we do hit Pay Dirt. Enjoy your time in the wood where ever it leads you and make MEMORIES . I'll be able to focus most of my attention to a not prime unit in the Gila....feel so blessed to even have that opportunity

have 20 pts non resident no luck for henrys. maybe when i'm 80 an can't walk. holy crap thought this might be my year. maybe next year.

LAST EDITED ON May-22-15 AT 03:45PM (MST)[p]My pal drew the max point tag for non resident henries this year I figured he was going to be the last one, there's only about 15 people left.

Now sitting on 20 non-resident points for LE Elk.
I'll probably have a heart attack if I ever see the word "Successful". I can see the obituary now, "Man dies over the shock of being drawn for an LE elk tag".

You guys are almost making me feel better about my usual Unsuccessful email (11pts for NR MZ in West Desert-Vernon).

I told my wife we are moving back so I can use these points before I die.

RE: "Didn't get my tag" thread, Plan B

I didn't get mine either but I plan not to instead of planning to draw. I put in for enough areas, hunts, deer, elk, antelope, US and Canada that I will have a great season even if I don't draw 1 tag I would really like to. Don't put all of you eggs in one basket.

If you are building points in 6 states like I do than technically every year I get 6 points. After the first couple of years you can start picking your state and unit to be successful in. You want to look at the previous years winners, add 2 point and that is where you need to be to closely guarantee a tag.

A hunters physicial life is to short to wait for 1 license. Hunt your as. off every year in different states and you will enjoy it more and when you draw that sacred tag you will be a more skilled hunter to hunt that special hunt.

RE: "Didn't get my tag" thread, Plan B

I had pretty high hopes for Utah, and they were thrashed BUT

Nevada gave both me and my wife some love so my disappointment just went away.

First time since Nevada went to PPs (1990) that I drew my first choice, usually it's my fifth choice I draw and regret using that many points for "THAT" tag.

Wife drew her fifth choice but still a good hunt.

RE: "Didn't get my tag" thread, Plan B

The Good news is the Colorado Landowner Vouchers are being received I got 2 today and a second envelope said I was UNSUCCESSFUL.
apparently there was a major mess in the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Limited licenses area driven by Erik Slater.
The details are very quiet but the outcome has been herd and felt around the hunting world.
Living through that by late summer it will all be forgotten. I will be receiving many, many vouchers this week from across the state that will be posted on the wed site www.DiscountedHunts.net under Vouchers.
If you have a voucher you are waiting for let me know and we will call you S SOON AS IT COMES IN AND GIVE YOU THE LANDOWNERS PHONE NUMBER TO GET THE VOUCHER. We no longer touch the money but instead refer you to the landowner via phone call to work out you own deal with them.
If you call Sharon on 303-776-7527 or [email protected] you will be on the watch list and soon as the voucher comes in you will be called right away.
We are doing all f this as a free service to the hunters and landowners. This is our way to continue our goal to make it possible in as many ways as possible to put hunters on private land hunting.

The Vouchers are Coming, the Vouchers are coming!

If you are looking for or planning to need a voucher this year call Sharon 303-776-7528 as soon as possible to get your name on the watch list for those vouchers coming in. If you are a landowner with vouchers to sell call Sharon also to get your vouchers listed on the voucher board as soon as possible our hands are tied to help with the sale but we can advertise so that hunter will find you here at Discounted Hunts [email protected] 303-776-7528.

We are here to help the landowners and the hunters together to get the landowner vouchers into the hunters hands by having both call in or email in so that you both have somewhere to meet. There is more information below for more details.

The new web page will be http://coloradoelkhuntingoutfitters.com/styled/index.html
instead of http://www.discountedhunts.net/Pages/LandownerVouchers.aspx as we transition into a new web page so that our hosting is faster and we can provide even more hunts and details for researching hunter looking for that edge for the best hunts.

Landowner Preference Program (LPP) for 2015
Landowner Preference Program is implemented under authority by:
Colorado Revised Statutes: Title 33, Article 4, 103
Colorado Parks and Wildlife Regulations: Chapter W2, 206, B, 4

Hunters & Landowners

In compliance with the 2015 LPP program I need to be certain that we are handling the Colorado Landowner voucher program changes greatly the way the Landowner Vouchers or as some call them Tags as in other states.

It is our goal and requirement to provide this service to the landowner and hunter to the ?Letter of the Law.? Some details below may sound unique, and they are, they are written to cover all of the requirements of this new law so that everyone using this advertising service is in no way doing anything against the new law.

The major change is that as a broker I can no longer,? broker? the vouchers between the landowner and the hunter. The dilemma that this produces between the hunters is where do they go to contact each other. Landowners can't find the hunters that want their vouchers and hunters don't know where to go to find the landowners with the vouchers. The LLP was built to provide more hunters access to private land hunting. Without being able to broker licenses the brokers would have to eat all the costs involved in providing and maintain the web page with the entries and the hundreds of hours required to provide this service. This to me is a failure to provide a location for communications to provide this information to both the landowners and the hunters.

At Discounted Hunts and Vouchers our goal is to provide as many hunter as possible hunting opportunities. In a documented plan to Erik Slater of the Colorado Parks and Wildlife and 3 phone calls to the same I have worked out a way that we can still provide that web page location and assist landowner and hunters to get together so they can buy and sell the Colorado Land Owner Vouchers directly between each other. We will act as a location for Landowners with Vouchers to post them and Hunters to post the description of the vouchers they are looking for.

The voucher owners will post their phone number or email so they can be contacted directly.
The hunter can do the same but are not required to include their name and phone number but can request the information from Sharon at Discounted Hunts. This is in an effort to provide as much privacy as possible under the new law.

We will allow landowner to place their received vouchers on the DiscountedHunts.net web page as advertising their vouchers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There is an advertising fee of $10 per voucher to advertise it for 12 months or less
The entry must have the following information posted.

For the Landowner
Required posting information
Voucher Information:
GMU/Unit number, season dates, animal, Colorado

Landowner information: Name, phone or email 1 or more pieces of contact information is required
After the voucher is sold the landowner can contact us to remove his entry if they wish.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We will also put the name and the GMUs of people looking for voucher(s)

For the Hunter
Required posting information

Voucher Information: GMU/Unit, season dates, animal, weapon, Colorado
Hunter information: Name, phone or email 1 or more pieces of contact information.
The law stipulates that the voucher owner must have contact information and we do so. The hunter contact information is not required to be posted but we can just say contact the webmaster and they will provide the contact information. If hunters wish we cannot post their name and information but have Sharon keep it and the GMU Watch list. In that way when any vouchers come in she will look for whatever the ?Watch List? has and if it is a match contact the hunter right away.
After the voucher is sold the landowner can contact us to remove his entry.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In Assistance
In the past many of the vouchers were purchased with credit cards. With us not brokering this requirement would fall upon the landowner to have a credit card machine to make a quick completion of the sale, as is what both the hunters and the outfitters want.

If so we will provide that service and charge $10 to the buyer and $10 to the seller to cover the credit card charges no matter what the amount is so it is also legal. This again is not a scalable pricing it is the same for everyone no matter what the price of the voucher again following the new law. If 1 voucher or 5 vouchers are purchased it is only 1 transaction even though it is 5 vouchers that are being sold at 1 time.

The agreement as to when the mailing of the voucher and the voucher is done is the complete responsibility of the landowner and the hunter. We cannot get involved in that part, just tell us when to run the credit card and mail the check to the landowner that the landowner and hunter agree on.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For the other states we handle, New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, California and Oregon there are no changes we can still broker them as we have in the past.

This is where I'm sitting. Still waiting to see what Idaho brings me. Fingers crossed

If it helps at all I have some hunts where if you don't have a license for that unit than the landowner may have vouchers he can sell you separate from the hunt.

The World is not over there are other options. I don't want to sound like I am selling anything but I would like to see you with a buck tag filled this year and a picture of you with something dead and brown with horns coming out all over the place.

In Wyoming there are only 2 regions that have leftover licenses that will go on sale on July 19 first come and first serve.

If need be I can help you get a license. I know of a outfitter in Wyoming that has some discounted deer hunts in that region, discounted to the tune of only $1795 for a guided 2 on 1 hunt.
It is the best deal I have found in the west for mule deer this year. The western states have cut back on there deer licenses again this year. This had made licences scarce and vouchers showing a 20-50% price increase. This one doesn't require a voucher, it is only the cost of the license about $380.

For the DIY hunter the hunt is $2900, but for the guided 2 on 1 hunt it is only $1795 and much more successful.

I would be happy to help you with whatever you decide I know how bummed it can be when you don't draw a license for you only hunt of the year.

I watch for these kind of special deals.

I didn't get my tag but being in Idaho I have a very liberal general deer season to try and get a decent buck.

Good luck to everyone this year.

You are right Idaho is very much over the counter for residents for most licenses.
Idaho has 1 trait that always kicks my butt. It is all up or all down no matter which way I walk. But there is some great hunting to be had.
Best of luck on your draw.
