I lucked out and drew a Nevada Mule deer tag for rifle in unit 241-245. I was wondering if any of you have hunted this unit before and have pictures of deer that have been shot there or what to expect? Being from North Dakota I will be looking to go guided so any help with what guides are good for that unit would be appreciated also!

Great gene pool for big antlers there with some real monsters. VERY few deer, tho. Great tag!

Try to book with Phil T for the last week of the season right away. Hunt with him only.....not somebody he's hired.

Next try 7L Outfitters out of Panaca. They have a website as well.

Although NDOW shortened the season, the last week the bucks will be up and more visible and starting to move around looking for does versus earlier in the season.

I drew 2 years ago and went with Phil. It is him only these days and takes very few hunters. Awesome dude and will work hard to get it done. It's like hunting on the moon. Very, very few deer. I went the first week of the hunt to try to kill the bucks that were scouted and patterned. Well it rained a bunch just before I got there. Bucks were gone. Hunted all day everyday. Never saw camp in the light. Found this guy on day 5. Was way excited when we walked up on him. We didn't think he was as big as he was.

As you can tell I am very excited about his buck.
Anyway, have an awesome hunt and please let us know what you decide and how you do.

Great, terrific buck BOM!

But not all guides or big muley hunters seek the same bucks they've scouted when hunting in early October.

They know that those bucks move......and sometimes a great deal......by the time the rut roles around by November. The most important thing is that mature bucks are VERY nocturnal during early October...........and I mean VERY nocturnal. There are many reasons for this....including better quality of feed which they can obtain by night feeding.....and don't need to show themselves during daylight.

I myself as well as many other big buck hunters know the advantages of the early season.......where you can find the same bucks you've scouted.......in the same places. IF YOU'VE SCOUTED THEM!

October 15, 2006, Central WY BLM DIY. Hunted him for 2 years. Right there in the same, exact place.
