North Slope Summit LE Deer

I drew the tag on my second choice and I realize what I got myself into. I usually have decent luck with new units by studying maps and calling the biologist, but the biologist hasn't returned any of my calls. I'm planning on scouting in the near future, and would love some pointers on where to start looking terrain wise. I'm not one to beg for honey holes, just general ideas to get me started. I've had guys tell me to stay low, some say get high... Just wondering what you guys thought. I'm not afraid to lace up the boots and get back in there and if I had a chance at a 25 incher I'd be ecstatic. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The fact that you drew an LE tag with a 2nd choice is all the indication you need. The North Slope LE hunt will likely be much, much worse than many other general season areas. They did not offer tags during a decent time of year, they are just hoping that some more deer will be killed in Utah before going over to WY for the rut. Low deer numbers. Low harvest numbers for other hunts. And low buck to doe ratios. But it is beautiful. And you will see elk.

There is a chance of a 25 incher on any unit. The unit holds nice bucks however so do general season units. If it was me I would turn the tag in. You should have rolled the dice on some late season muzzleloader tags.
