Unit 61 Colorado 2 season

There is no high in unit 61. Good quality but very difficult to locate due to thick oak brush and hoards of elk hunters .Good luck.

thanks for the info. is there any parts of the unit that you can hike and glass from or is it all thick. ive hunted 60 a few years in a row and had good luck. do you see more deer in 61 then in 60 ?

I can't compare unit 60 as I've haven't been through there. I would stay off divide road between 61 & 62 because of the elk hunters, heavy traffic, logging trucks etc. I would seek out some of the remote deep canyons on the South end of the unit. Go prepared to spend the entire day and have a plan to retrieve your meat. Good luck

hanks valley....red and little red canyons.

I archery hunted elk in Hanks Valley and red and little red canyons last year and did not see many deer. I would say north end, middle third of drainages. Look in transition from Aspen to oak for best bucks.

Thanks for the help. I went out on a limb and bought a landowner voucher. I just want to get out there and hunt hard. Hopefully find a buck that's 165 or better. Didn't get drawn for anything. So I figured what the heck. My buddy that's going with me hunts 62 usually. He said the divide is chaos . Hopefully it isn't a 100 degrees during second season. I appreciate everyone's replies. Hopefully can return favor.

That suprises me....i have always found good bucks in those areas along with a bunch of elk.
blue creek in the north is a good bet. Walk in off the divide road....anywhere in that area on the roads that are closed is good

I rode my mtb bike down Blue Creek and up The Mailbox Saturday. I have to admit I was concentrating on keeping the bike upright down Blue Creek more than looking for wildlife. I did scatter some elk off the trail about where The Bunch Ground comes in.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-08-15 AT 11:01AM (MST)[p]haven't seer a lot of deer in 61 lately. 165" is a good realistic goal. Big bucks used to come off there in the past. how about this buck by Spruce Mt a few years ago?

That 3 point is a cool buck. I'd be happy with either of those bucks.thanks for posting those pictures. Is there back country hikes to get away from people? Like we're you can back pack in ?
