I just had a buddy get a phone call as an alternate for a San Juan Archery deer tag. Just looking for a little advice for anyone that knows the unit fairly well on a good place to start looking. Also thank to whoever turned their tag in!
You're welcome! It was my grandfather who turned in the tag. He had a heart attack and ended up having Quadruple Bypass surgery. He is healing fine now but the doctor said "NO HUNTING" this year. My dad and I also have tags and have been down scouting the unit. Pretty much anywhere you go you will see 150"-180" deer. It is a big unit and tons of roads. Pretty much pick an area an focus on it. The deer will be there. Check out my HAC post. There are a few pics form our trip down 3 weeks ago. I am heading down again this weekend to check cameras, etc...
I'm sorry, I wouldn't wish that upon anybody for any tag!! I hope that he has a good recovery and glad he is still with us, that is a scary situation. That is very nice of you to offer help also. I am sure that we will be in touch. Thanks again
Sign in with your username and 8 digit code then go to the main page that shows all the different categories. If you have a PM, it will tell you so you can't miss it. I often get told that there is a PM when i sign in but there isn't, some kind of glitch in the system, but it works. Main thing is to be signed in.
Welcome!!

Ya know SnkyHuntr, I can't help but feel like your grandfather's heart attack may be a blessing in disguise. As someone who's experienced such a thing with a family member I can say that the fact that it happened in a location where he could be taken care of immediately and appropriately is a miracle. The fact that it happened early enough in the year that he was able to turn the tag back in is a blessing. And with a good recovery, you all can look forward to another hunt next year...
I hope to see more photos in your HAC too..!! I'm living vicariously through the rest of you guys as I didn't draw any tags this year.
