Saskatchewan Deer Hunt

I am going to do a November rifle hunt on a reservation and have the ability to hunt mule deer the first week of November or the end of November. 2nd and 3rd weeks are full.

The terrain is ag fields mixing into river bottoms. Baited stands as well as some spot and stalk over the river bottom. If I go the first week I would be the first gun hunter of the season and the last week should be good rutting activity. My question is what would you prefer. I know there are pros and cons to each and most would prefer the rut but I am leaning towards the first week because of work commitments later in the month. Thanks for the input guys!

Not knowing some of the other details, I'm with you. Go first and pray for just enough snow that you can still get around. And cold enough that you are just miserable.

With some cold weather, those deer will be moving around and you should be able to see then and get after them. Be sure to let us know how you do. I'm curious about those res hunts.

And best of luck!

Go early. I have to think that weeks 2 and 3 are booked up because they are the weeks that coincide with the rut most frequently. That said, if you miss the rut with week 1 or week 4 I'd rather be the first guy in the field with a gun rather than the last...

Good luck and let us know how it turns out. Love those big Canadian Muleys.

I'd check on the Reservation hunting dates too. Reservations can have separate dates for Reservation members to hunt first then they'll have the other guided non-Reservation members go later. That was the way on one of my hunts in Montana. You needed the rut to see any deer as they were spooked bad because of intense pressure. Just something to check out. I'd go the end of November in your case.
