Hey all. I am hoping someone can give me some information and maybe know some things.

I have been invited on a Mexico Mule Deer hunt in January. I am super excited, but also nervous with all that is going on in Mexico. I am hoping someone knows something about the outfitter and ranch to ease my mind.

The booking was done through http://www.bowhuntingsafari.com/Buehrer.html

The ranch is with
Sergio Jimenez Lezama
Ave. Roble 660
Col.Valle del Campestre
San Pedro, Garza Garcia
Nuevo Leon

I want to go on this hunt SOOOO bad, but I also want to make sure that this is a good deal and I don't end up dead under a cactus!!! Please help if you know anything about these guys.

Thanks!!

LAST EDITED ON Aug-06-15 AT 03:17PM (MST)[p]Well, before I answer that question for you, let me ask you this one:

How many times have you travelled to a major US city in the last year?

Chicago? Dallas? NYC? Seattle? Denver? Did you feel unsafe there? Were you worried about crime there?

So now that you have had time to contemplate that, let's just say this. Mexico has a population of roughly 124 million and a population of those associated with drug cartels and crime at about 300,000. Roughly 10 million U.S. citizens will travel to Mexico in 2015, at least the same or more in 2016. Of those 10 million that travel there, for any reason, the number of those who are victims of drug cartel or related violence is roughly around 100.

Want to know what those same statistics are for the U.S. cities I already mentioned? Yep - you got it, about the same.

So, do you have to be aware in certain areas? Yes. Just like you do in the U.S.

Do you have to stay away from crime areas and refrain from participating in criminal activity yourself? Well, duh.

So - it is safe to travel to Mexico in general.

Now, you will be hunting a ranch called El Plomito ranch, which is in Sonora, a Mexican state where all the drug trafficking and crime are controlled by the Sinaloa Cartel, or as it is sometimes referred to the Pacific Cartel, which is run by El Chapo Guzman, the most wanted criminal in the world and who just recently organized and executed the most elaborate escape from the most heavily guarded and most secure prison on Mexico. It is not an area that is in dispute necessarily and it is not an area that is high on the watch lists, though there is a general travel advisory for that area. Most likely you will fly into Hermosillo and your guide will then provide ground transportation to the ranch. If you are with a guide this whole way, you should be fine. If you are driving yourself, your should be fine too but you will just want to take some extra precautions, as indicated in the travel advisory. Stay on main roads, don't travel into unfamiliar areas after dark, etc.

Thousands of hunters travel to Sonora every year with very little incidents. Really, the only people who really get targeted are those who are already involved in nefarious activity anyway. You should be fine.

Oh, and one more thing, people from the state of Washington are particularly at risk. For some reason, they are targeted more frequently than all others. Good thing you live in Richfiel.... oh yeah, well... Good luck with that then!!

;-) ;-)

HAHA....yea good thing I live in Washington!!

And I agree with you. I am not so much scared to travel in MX. I go to Monterrey in Nuevo Leon about 4 times a year and that is scarier than Sonora or Hermosillo I think for sure.

I am really just more nervous about the Ranch and if anyone knew of anyone that has hunted there before. Since I am not the one setting this hunt up, I am just going on a whim on if it is any good or not.

Hey Roy, maybe we should take you as our interpreter.

I've been on and hunted that ranch twice.

Sergio is a friend of mine and has been for many years.

Quit worrying and go enjoy the place and the experience. You will have a super time I'm sure.
