Growing??

How do you tell when a buck is done growing with velvet on?? I look at the tips and see if they are more rounded than pointy. The big boy I found looks to be done growing but its only the first week of August. Thoughts?

I agree with goofy, I think the majority of bucks and bulls begin to dry out first week in august. And by the end, some are beginning to rub.

I would agree, most are done by now. However, a few years ago I videotaped a buck on the first of August and then killed him on the 3rd of Sept (below). He put about 3-4 inches of tine length on in that time on his back end. Front forks were about the same as Aug., but the backs grew a bunch.

But most of my experience says they're within an inch or so of being done by August.
