I would like your experience on hunting mule deer in the rain. Where do they want to be and how they act during rain or after the rain?

Not sure where the deer are, it's tough to see out the fogged up windows!

Seriously, the deer here in cali love the rain and you might see a big buck standing out where you never even saw a deer before.

Outa state, not much rain. It's either snowing or it's not.

light rain doesn't seem to affect them much, however if you get heavy rain and/or heavy wind then they take cover and lay tight.

I've noticed in open country they hole up as where they would if it's windy(draws, canyons, cuts) with more activity before and after the storms. Can't comment on the thick stuff, I avoid it.

A Heavy Rain Storm will Hole them up!

One advantage is:

When the Storm Clears a lot of them will come out Early/start moving at any given time!

I think they like to Dry Off!

Hunting in the rain keeps your scent down and makes for quiet walking. If it rains hard for a couple days deer will abandon the thick brush and be in the open or in the timber. That's been my experience.

Eel

Guns are like parachutes. If you need one and don't have one you probably will never need one again.

I agree with eel. My experience is deer can be found in openings and timber. The rain knocks down your scent and makes it quiet for getting close. Deer will start popping up everywhere when the rain lets up or stops.

Also, you may be an a$$hole even if you walk, and a bigger one if you make it back alive. And most certainly if you call yourself "Yvon"! Excepting any friends or relatives of the present company, of course. :)

Maybe we will have a little rain around here this season. Which unit are you hunting?

Light rain in ND won't change them much as they are used to the rain here. I've bow hunted them many times in nodak and about the only thing they don't like is really heavy wind and rain. One thing that can help is mid day thunderstorm and if it clears out before night and the sun comes out you'd better be hunting because the deer will be out and about everywhere what I've noticed from my experience

Most often, heavy rain will hole them up until it's over. However, there are exceptions to this. Many years ago, I had been watching a group of bucks. One night after dark, as I was motoring back to camp during a torrential downpour, there they were-feeding out in the open desert country, just like they did in good weather conditions. I guess they were used to being rained on in the sparse cover desert country so it didn't bother them.

I love hunting during rainy weather. As many here have said, rain will keep your scent and noise down. Don't go back to camp! Bring your rain gear and prepare yourself for staying out in the weather.

Did I tell you about the time I decided I'd be the only TARD on the Hill Hunting in a down pour?

Can't Be that Bad,Right?

Never been that wet in my life!

My SmokePole could not of got any wetter if you had throwed it in a Swimming Pool!

The only Good thing!

Wasn't any other TARDS in sight!
