I hit a buck I named Optimus (everyone guessed him from 175" to 195") the 4th of September with an arrow in the shoulder. Looked everywhere for him for 2 days. Came to the conclusion that he was not mortally wounded.

I never gave up on him. Have put in 7-10 days looking for him. Passing on several smaller 140-150 deer in hopes to see him again.

Tonight at sunset I found him not a 1/4 mile from where I shot him. He is alive and best thing is that he looks healthy. He polished his antler, not limping, and I can even see where i hit him in no-mans land in the shoulder.

I left him and another small 3x3 feeding along a hillside. Going after him in the morning.

REDEMPTION TIME!!!

Happy you found him alive and well. Hope to see the next picture of him in front of your smiling face. He'll be the one you'll never forget.
Good Luck!!

Its neat that you found him but that deer does not look healthy. That doesn't mean he will die from his wounds but he has a very hard road ahead of him.

Tri, that "unhealthy" picture was taken before he was even shot!

52, man that's great!!! Way to stick with it, not many would. Now go finish "the rest of the story".

Forkwest,

thanks for the clarification. That deer looks really poor in that pic.

I hope he finds him and finishes him.

The buck does look a bit putrid. Either that or constipated. Finish him off before he grows some non typical points next year.

The good news is we sure as hell know from your other pics he's not 175! I love that main beam, keep after him or has the hunt ended?
