Daughter's 1st Hunt, CO 3rd Season

When I say daughter's, I do mean plural. I've twin daughters that got to draw their 1st tags here in CO for the 3rd season. Buck tags. To say it was an eventful and fun hunt, is an understatement. I hunted 2nd season elsewhere in the state and took my best buck, but this trip was 100 times more fun. We hunted hard all week as time permitted due to school and BBall. Opening morning my 1 daughter missed a buck that would have made any hunter proud, but she shrugged it off in short order and kept a great attitude. Yesterday was the last day of the season and bucks were really hard to come by.

Luckily I was able to glass this buck up, in full rut mode. He was chasing 2 does around. I got my daughters set up in the shooting sticks, gave them last second guidance on where to shoot. I told them that after the daughter who didn't get to shoot on Sat. took her shot, that if he was still on his feet, for either of them to take a shot. My first daughter shot and it was a solid hit behind the shoulder. He stuttered stepped and turned to go down hill. He stopped after a couple steps and my second daughter shot with another solid hit. I did not see him fall as I jerked a little at the second shot. However, me made it up the ridge in short order and this is as he layed. Both girls hit tight behind the shoulders like we practiced all summer. I'm a pretty dang proud dad today. My whole family was on the hunt. I'll let some photo's tell the rest of the story.

Congrats to the girls I'm sure it will be a memory that will last them forever. The nice buck is just icing on the cake I'm sure.

Gentleman. Thank you for the compliments. The girls definitely looked like old pros at this and it was by far the funnest hunt I've been on. Stressful to me not turning up more bucks, but there was no shortage of deer. The 1st buck my one daughter missed on Sat. was truly a giant. Easily 28" to 30" wide, tall and heavy. I only told them at the time it was a good buck, but she still got buck fever and pulled her shot. That's the way hunting goes though sometimes. She shrugged it off, and she obviously didn't make the same mistake the second time. Daughter number 2 made her 1st shot count as well, and I'm pretty happy that all the range time we had during the summer/fall paid off.

And yes, to the gent who said how am I going to top this next year, I really don't know, but perhaps a couple big bull elk might suffice!

No better feeling than knowing they had fun on this hunt, and got the added bonus of a dandy buck. Good times shared with family.

In my opinion, that is better than shooting any "trophy" animal yourself, we need our next generation of hunter's. It is so gratifying to see a family involved, and can't read these types of posts enough. Congratulations and extremely happy for you and your family!

Country and Camper,

Yes that was the goal from the outset. To have a great time and great experience. Any deer seen or shot, were just a bonus. We definitely got the best of both worlds as we saw 20+ deer a day(does mostly as we only saw 3 bucks total) and several different herds of big horn sheep.

Congrats. Awesome success and photos. Thanks for sharing you hunt and some great memories for you and the family.
