nice buck...but why does almost everyone have to look like a midget when they kill a buck???

Quite possibly the worst picture I have ever seen on this website. That deer could be 145 inches or 245 inches. We'll never know. Hope the hunters had fun though. Congrats.

Hey TRI!

That just might be a 345" Buck!

He's as Wide as the Picture!:D

Go Ahead!

isnt it the california governers tag? i saw a picture on Instagram that said 240" cali gov tag. killed by clint Heiber

"Shoot Straight"

Yup, another website had link to the outfitters Facebook, Gov Tag. That's a big buck and apparently close to 40" wide.

I wouldn't take anything away from this huge buck because of the way the picture was taken. Big is big, this buck is a flat out giant and world class specimen. Did you notice the big bell hanging down off the left main beam? Incredible!

Yes, i too sometimes gripe about camera placement on pic's to make a smaller buck appear to be larger than it is but it seems human nature takes over and what we'd like to see makes no difference in what we sometimes get.

edit: Hh23 and Dogg, thanks for the info and positive comments!

edit #2: Here's another World Class Monster taken from same area last season. This zone could be hunted in the regular season last year with as few as 5 points.

No doubt RE the width of that buck on the utv, a dandy. Also, the full spectrum of hat brim curvature is illustrated in the 1st picture, roughly corresponding w age of wearer.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-18-15 AT 08:13AM (MST)[p]It looks like this isn't going to be a Devils garden buck like everyone's been saying I saw where the outfitter himself commented on a Facebook post that it was taken near eagle lake which I'm sure is just the general area,so it's potentially a x5a buck from what the man in the back with the dark glasses said.

Even with a 22" ear span he looks to be 34-35" wide, I bet that knarly old bucks got wider ears than that! That's alotta bone no matter how far behind him you pose for the pic! Congrats to the hunter!

Ah, the games people play, rightly so in some cases like this. If i hunted X-2 or was planning to, never know, i don't think i'd want this info out on the web.

X-5a is my personal favorite area to hunt bucks but it took 9 points to be sure of a tag last year and IMO, not worth it compared to some other easier to draw units.

No matter really, it's enough to know that all the NE cali zones kick out a few monsters every year and those drawing tags should do it right and give those hunts the effort that they deserve.

Those are great bucks.....could be a 145" deer? LMAO! I knew what you meant...I think.

Cancer doesn't discriminate...don't take your good health for granted because it can be gone in a heartbeat. Please go back and read the last line. This time really understand what it says.

I thought the exact same thing. :)

Incredible beast of a buck! Thanks for posting that up for us sage.

Man the old boy in the middle has a llittle bit of history if you google his name.

>Interesting story about the stolen antlers.

Weird story is right. I know the taxidermist who was mentioned in Montana. He's back in California, last I heard.

FYI: That buck was taken in X5a.

On another note, there was a bunch of point creep last year in X2 and it required 6.1 points to be guaranteed a tag last year. Only a few, of many, with 6 points received tags.

OMG that buck is a freak of nature being able to hide and survive to grow that big especially here in Cali. with the hunting pressure. That buck has everything, mass, junk can't wait to see that buck mounted. Please post it up when you get the mount back.

Congrats on a buck of a lifetime. One that we all dream just to see in the wild.

Boz, Don't see you enough around here lately, hope things been well for you!

Looks like there has been some gamesmenship being played with the location of this Bucks demise. As mentioned above, i don't blame some folks that want to keep their favorite unit on the QT and keep down point creep in their draws. Thanks for what you shared, do you know more about this Toad that you can share?

Here's a Booner Typical Buck taken in The north part of our state maybe 6-7 years ago. I remember reading this guys story. He was after about any buck and then this buck shows up under his glassing point.

I don't know if it was in MM or not. I believe it was in Trophy Hunter mag. I talked to a couple guys in Adin during a burger break one day that were either hunting with him or helping him out. Also, there is a pic out and about of this buck and hunter in front of the Adin Supply store in that neat little town. I believe the buck was taken west of adin though, closer to Fall River country.

The guy had no clue what he had! :)

Joey, I was duck hunting north of Fall River Mills right around Thanksgiving. It must have been late 70's. The biggest buck I'll ever lay eyes on walked out of the Junipers one morning down to the edge of the water. A non-typical. I remember it like yesterday.

Eel

Great memories there Eel! you might see one just a tad better next year or one day, i hope so! Yes, that Fall River country has about all a outdoor guy could want. If it wasn't in Calif, nobody i know could afford to live there, it's that nice.

Most of my memories of that country are drifting fall river with a buddy, small PMD's fished dry on 7X tippet after big trout. We'd anchor above big pods of rising fish, try to pick out the best of them, and let our slack lines drift down for their inspection.

If the fishing ever cooled down, one couldn't help but see the semi open country on the mountains close by and wonder just how big are the muley's they held. Good sized groups of ducks and geese were continually getting up and setting back down in what must have been a good sized swamp area just north of where we fished. Nice country, real nice!

Good memories Joey. I love that country over there.

One time my wife and I were over there, duck hunting as usual. It was early in the season and deer season was still open. This big buck crossed the road in front of us so I stopped just to admire him. We didn't have a tag. He ran up on this little knob and stopped to look back at us. About that time another truck came by. It was obvious deer hunters because they had rifles and were wearing orange hats. I stuck my arm out the window and tried to get them to stop, but they just gave me a WTF? look and didn't even slow down. LOL! Oh well.

Eel

What Pressure, running from the lions, or the coyotes, Cali does'nt have the hunting pressure it did years ago. All these deer have now is the pressure of all the predators. Come on guys, We should have ten times as many deer as we have now, wake up.Bleedin hearts have screwed us hunters.

Thanks
