I am still after him!!!

I am still after my quest to get the buck I hit in September.

He is on private land (I have permission) and rutting really hard. I had him yesterday in a field chasing a hot doe and other bucks away at 45-50 yards. He wouldn't stop long enough for me to get a shot.

I have a mule deer buck decoy coming in the mail (heads-up decoy). From what I have seen it will get me the extra 20 yards I need.

I still get mixed guesses on score. Anywhere from 170"-195" haha. I think his mass makes him very hard to score on the hoof accurately.

In the first picture you can see the scar from where I hit him in September.

I don't think he has the tine length to get to 195, but with his great mass he's definitely not 170. He's definitely a stud of a buck and I hope you can finish the deal! A true trophy there.

Good luck. Go get him.

I am guessing him to be just over 180". What he lacks in tine length he makes up for in mass.

Trust me, he looks heavier in person.

What I like is that he has big eye guards.

My guess mid 180's Hope you get a good shot on him.

Wow! Beautiful buck! I really hope you get him and finish this quest you've been on. Good luck and keep us up to date!! I would say he was right around 180..

Tough old bugger isn't he! That wound looks like it could have caught the very top of his lung.

But looking at this diagram, probably just caught the shoulder blade in that small gap below the spine but above the lung.

Very cool to see he's still kick'n, and you're still after him!

Good luck!

I think he'll go low 170's on the main frame and since I can't tell how many or how big the extras are, add in say 5-8 inches and you get a potential low 180 type buck. Great buck with awesome mass.

Just shoot the darn thing so we can see what he scores. LOL
He's a really nice Buck his G4 seem a little short and his back forks aren't super deep but that's just nit picking I'd shoot him.

Good luck at putting an arrow through his lungs. I'm guessing he is around 185" gross. I love the mass. He probably has 22-24" of mass score on each antler.

The best thing is that when you do get him, he will have bred many of those ladies and passed his genes on some more (although I suspect he has done a great deal of that in years past as well. Good luck

Most bucks typically look bigger in velvet, so in judging the velvet pic he definitely looks bigger.
But when you compare his ears which typically on most mule deer will be between 7-8 inches long, his tines are short in comparison. There's no doubt that his mass makes up a lot of the differences and that's where the numbers are going to be most prevalent.
Mass + extras will be the determining factor for how high he gross scores, with that said, I wouldn't hesitate to shoot this buck because he's going to look great on the wall - good luck.

I am still trying to get him. I am running out of time and fast.

Have had several busted stalks and one stalk that he busted me drawing my bow at 37 yards (he stopped behind a tree that covered his vitals).

The quest continues!!!

I thought I remember reading earlier in this thread that you were hunting the "Uintah Basin Extended" hunt? Correct?

Didn't the deer hunt for that hunt end on Nov 30?
